Lagos State Honours 17 Retired Permanent Secretaries at Pens-Down Ceremony

The Lagos State Government on Thursday honoured 17 retired Permanent Secretaries at a vibrant Pens-Down Ceremony, celebrating the conclusion of more than three decades of distinguished service to the State.

The event was held at Bero Auditorium Alausa ikeja

Speaking at the event, the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, described the ceremony as a fitting tribute to a career journey marked by commitment, perseverance, and exceptional public service. He noted that every public servant aspires to end their career strong—in good health and sound mind—an achievement attained by the honourees.

Agoro welcomed dignitaries, family members, friends, and colleagues to what he described as a unique occasion, recognising individuals whose exemplary service has positively impacted Lagos State. He expressed gratitude to God on behalf of the retirees for sustaining them through their years of public service.

He commended the retirees for their “unquestionable loyalty, unwavering commitment, undiluted dedication and untold sacrifices,” noting that their contributions have significantly aided the development of Lagos State. Agoro also assured that their exit from active service does not mark the end of their relationship with the State Government. Their expertise, he said, would continue to be utilised through the Association of Lagos State Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries (ALARHOSPS), while their welfare would remain a priority through the Post Service Directorate.

The Head of Service acknowledged the legacies left behind by the celebrants and reaffirmed the government’s willingness to tap into their wealth of experience whenever required. He extended appreciation to the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, for his continuous support of public service initiatives, and praised the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mrs. ’Sunkanmi Oyegbola, and her team for organising the successful ceremony.

Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Mrs. Adekanye Amudat expressed gratitude to God for witnessing the milestone event and thanked the Lagos State Government for the honour. She affirmed that although they are retired, they remain “not tired,” pledging continued support and prayers for the growth and prosperity of Lagos State.

The ceremony concluded in a joyful atmosphere, with attendees applauding the State Government’s recognition of the retirees’ service and wishing them fulfilling years ahead.
