LAWMA BEGINS CLEANUP OF APAPA, TIN CAN AXIS*

  * The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has commenced clearing the heap of refuse on an illegal dumpsite at Tin Can Island Port, on Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, targeted at ridding the axis of black spots. No less than fifteen truck loads of refuse had been carted away to the Olusosun Landfill, since the operation began yesterday, at that location, turned to a dumpsite, through the activities of residents and traders operating an illegal market in the area.  According to Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, the agency had mobilised men, trucks, pay-loaders, and other necessary materials, after overcoming a major challenge of vehicular access to the area, which had previously prevented evacuation intervention. Operation Burst Raids Hide-Outs, Recovers 23 I-Phones from Suspect

  The Oyo State Joint- security task force, Operation Burst has recovered some stolen Apple phones from a suspect at Sabo area, few days to the New Year celebration.  The security outfit said the recovery was made during its raids on black spots and hideouts for criminals in Ibadan.  Director General of Oyo State Joint Security Task Force, Operation Burst, Colonel James Oladipo (rtd), confirmed that about twenty-three Apple-phones were recovered from the suspect, who is now at large.  Oladipo said that this was part of Outfit’s efforts to protect lives and property in the state especially during the ‘Ember months’. “We have been on the trail of criminals who have been terrorising citizens and residents at strategic locations, especially in Sabo area of the state,” he said.  He said that a surveillance team of the Joint security task force, recently, raided some ‘Blackspots’ in Ibadan where the Apple phones were recovered.  Oladipo therefore called on victims who were recently robbed of

LAWMA Partners West Africa ENRG For Lagos Badagry Expressway Cleanup

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has partnered West Africa ENRG, an environmental services company, for a thorough cleanup of heaps of refuse in black spots along the Lagos Badagry expressway, stretching 19 kilometres, from Mile 2 to Iyana Iba. The Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, who disclosed this in his office, said the exercise would last for about three weeks, involving deep cleaning of the expressway, with particular focus on service lanes, dedicated bus lanes, tolled lanes, intersections, medians, and kerbs. He said the move was meant to put a permanent stop to the menace of highway littering and indiscriminate dumping of waste along that corridor, adding that the agency would also focus on the sustainability of the work done. LAWMA, LASPARK Build Christmas Trees From Recyclable Items*

  Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and its sister agency Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK,), have collaborated to use pet bottles and discarded old tyres, to build lovely eco-friendly Christmas trees, demonstrating to residents that waste materials could be used to creatively improve the aesthetics of the environment. Speaking during a press interview in his office, the Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, stated that the Authority has chosen to promote the recycling initiative, by building the Christmas trees from recyclable items. He said, "We partnered LASPARK on the initiative to practise what we preach, by creating Christmas trees whose main materials are sourced from recyclables, and by so doing, teach residents in the state the importance of engaging in recycling, especially during this festive season”.   The Lawmaker representing Afijio State Constituency, Hon Seyi Adisa has donated food items to members of his constituency, including widows.  Adisa, distributed the items on Monday, at his constituency office, with members of his constituency in attendance.  Hon. Adisa, who oversaw the distribution of the items, stated it was part of the end-of-the-year activities aimed at supporting families.  The lawmaker was also joined by his wife, Mrs. Tolu Adisa, who gave out special packages to a separate set of One-hundred widows.  He used the opportunity to assure the people of more dividends coming in the new year, adding that his office intends to embark on more people-oriented projects that will improve the standard of living in the constituency.

  The Oyo State Government has partnered with Rotary Club and other non-governmental organisations, to provide free dental healthcare intervention for children in public primary schools. According to the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Taiwo Ladipo, the intervention and awareness campaign which was held in 15 primary schools across local governments in Ibadan and Oyo town, was meant to improve dental health care of the children. Other establishments who joined in the campaign include, Fortune Health Plus, Procter and Gamble and Nigerian Dental Association. Dr. Ladipo who said the project was tagged “Oyo State Dental Health Mission”, also enjoined individuals to embrace dental hygiene to prevent the emergence of oral health related diseases.
