Fire Knock Down Apartment At Lagos Government Staff Quarters Ogba

A fire broke out early Friday morning at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road in Ogba, Lagos, causing extensive damage to a two-bedroom apartment. The blaze, which started around 2:20 a.m., originated from an electrical surge in the children's room of one of the apartments in Flat 5, Block 21, within the two-story building, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

The fire completely destroyed the children's room and caused significant property damage estimated to be worth millions of naira. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported. Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, praised the swift response from emergency services, including LASEMA’s Response Team (LRT), the Nigerian Police Force, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, who contained and extinguished the fire before it could spread further.

"The prompt and coordinated efforts of the Agency’s LRT, NPF, and Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service ensured that the fire was quickly contained and extinguished," Oke-Osanyitolu said. "Fortunately, there was no loss of life or injuries."

Following the incident, residents were educated on the safe use of electrical appliances to prevent future occurrences. Emergency personnel remained on the scene until 5 a.m. to ensure the situation was fully under control.
