Lagos Assembly Confirms Nominees For Government Agencies

  The Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday confirmed the appointments of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's nominees for the state Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) and other agencies. The appointments followed the screening of the candidates by a 12-man ad-hoc committee of the House headed by the Chief Whip, Mojeed Fatai. Just before the confirmation of the nominees, Hon. Fatai said the committee conducted a thorough screening of the credentials and experiences of each nominee adding that they are all capable of holding government offices. Adding his voice, a member of the House, Hon. Sa'ad Olumoh, said the nominees are "round pegs in round holes." Soludo Clarifies Position on Native Doctors Involved in Criminal Activities

  Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has affirmed that he has never declared war on all native doctors but on those involved in criminal activities. Soludo said from investigations by concerned individuals and organizations in the Southeast, some native doctors are involved in preparing charms for kidnappers and armed robbers and are engaged in evil practices that may not exclude human sacrifices for money and protection. In a statement from the State's Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, Governor Soludo, out of a sense of responsibility and responsiveness, has decided to stop diabolical rituals that have given rise to evil practices such as Ego Mbute, Oke-Ite, Yahoo Plus, and idolatry that are making a speedy return to Igbo socio-cultural life. This is coming a few days after an airplane crash claimed more than 30 lives in Azerbaijan. Government officials say the plane was carrying 175 passengers and six crew members.   The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a Pre-disconnection notice to telecommunications providers MTN Nigeria over the company’s failure to pay inter-connection charged. NCC Director of Public Affairs, Ruben Mouka announced the pre-disconnection notice on Friday, saying the decision of the regulatory agency is based on the NCC Act 2003 and the guidelines for the procedure for granting approval to disconnect telecommunications operators 2012.
