Lokpobiri condemns attack on Tebedaba-Brass Pipeline in Bayelsa

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, has condemned the recent blast on the 18-inch Tebedaba-Brass Pipeline in Lagos-Gbene, Opuama clan, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The pipeline, which supplies crude oil to the Brass Terminal, has been shut down for maintenance following the incident.

Lokpobiri, accompanied by security heads in the region, visited the site to assess the damage.

He assured that the government would do everything possible to protect the country's economic assets and bring those responsible to justice. "We will go after anybody linked to these crimes, wherever they are hiding," he emphasized.

The minister highlighted the significant revenue loss resulting from the blast, affecting not only the federation and the company but also local communities, which have a 3% stake in the pipeline's operations.

He stressed the need for vigilance among community members, urging them to report any suspicious activity that could lead to such incidents.

Lokpobiri commended Oando, the indigenous operator that acquired the asset from NOAC, for swiftly initiating maintenance.

He recommended this approach to other companies with similar assets, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between security agencies and civilian security contractors in preventing such incidents.

The minister urged the people of the Niger Delta to be vigilant and report any movements that could result in pipeline damage, emphasizing that protecting the environment and the economy is a collective responsibility, stating, "This is everybody's job.."
