DR. ORAMALUGO LAUNCHES 2ND EDITION OF HIS BOOK “CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION IN NIGERIA”

Francis Bacon coined the expression that "Knowledge is power." However, some scholars argue that it's applied knowledge that's truly powerful. If knowledge is indeed power, as Bacon posited, one would expect the world's most influential individuals to be academics and professors.
Dr. Oramalugo, the current Customs Area Controller of the Seme Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), is a case in point. He has successfully applied his knowledge in practice. Unlike his contemporaries who struggled to read and write without application, Dr. Oramalugo was busy reading and applying his intellectual knowledge, even while chasing smugglers to facilitate trade as a career Customs officer.
On Wednesday, July 16, 2026, the Seme Area Command of the NCS was abuzz with excitement as it hosted the formal launch of the second edition of Dr. Oramalugo's book, “Customs Administration in Nigeria”. At the book launch, Comptroller Oramalugo described the book as “more than an assemblage of chapters” but rather a product of years of hard work and experience in academic research and policy engagement.
The CAC told his invited guests that the revised edition responds to emerging challenges in customs operations and integrates ongoing reforms under the leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR. He further informed that the book aligns with global standards in trade facilitation, security, and border management, acknowledging that it's a thorough, researched work of immense academic input.
According to him, “The dynamism of global trade, the rise of digital customs, and the expanding role of Customs in national security all demand a scholarly response.” Dr. Oramalugo added, “This book aspires to offer a practical framework for understanding, navigating, and improving customs systems in Nigeria and similar jurisdictions.”
The author emphasized the importance of intellectual empowerment and professional excellence, urging officers to embrace continuous learning as a core element of service. “A knowledgeable officer is a more effective officer. A disciplined mind is a catalyst for institutional excellence,” Dr. Oramalugo advised fellow officers.
The event was attended by captains of industry, notable freight forwarders, and highly rated dignitaries, including heads and representatives of various government security and regulatory agencies operating at the Seme-Krake Joint Border Post. The heads of agencies commended the Customs Area Controller for his intellectual contribution and for championing professionalism within the service.
Comptroller Oramalugo expressed deep appreciation to the reviewers, editors, and all who contributed to the successful publication of the book. He also acknowledged the support of the CGC and the management of the Service for fostering a culture of knowledge, discipline, and reform. The book was recommended for the public, policymakers, academics, practitioners, and students engaged in customs and border governance across Nigeria and the West African sub-region.
