Abiru Highlights Legislative Feats, Constituency Projects at Lagos East Stakeholders

Senator Tokunbo Abiru, who represents Lagos East Senatorial District, has outlined his legislative record and constituency interventions, stating that his stewardship has been driven by three core pillars: legislation, empowerment and endowment.

Abiru spoke while addressing party leaders and stakeholders at a meeting in Lagos, where he highlighted his role in sponsoring and co-sponsoring key legislations at the National Assembly. According to him, these include the Insurance Industry Reforms Act and the Copyright Amendment Act, as well as ongoing amendment bills on the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA), the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM) Act and the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) Act.

The senator also detailed several constituency projects executed across Lagos East. He disclosed that more than 35 schools have benefited from classroom construction and rehabilitation, while a number of health facilities, including 40-bed hospitals and primary health centres, have been constructed or upgraded across the district.

Abiru further revealed that 11 community roads have been completed, with others still under construction. He said over 700 solar-powered streetlights have been installed to improve security, while more than 30 communities have received electricity transformers. In addition, 21 motorised boreholes have been constructed to provide access to potable water.

On economic empowerment, the senator said 48 cooperative societies were launched in December, each receiving a ₦10 million take-off grant, bringing the total investment to ₦480 million. He explained that the initiative was designed to promote grassroots economic inclusion.

He added that about 2,000 constituents have been supported with empowerment tools such as freezers, generators, ovens, industrial sewing machines and grinding machines. He also disclosed that over 80,000 households across the district have benefited from food pack distribution schemes.

Calling for unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abiru urged party members to remain disciplined and continue to support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He emphasised that sustained development in Lagos East, Lagos State and Nigeria requires collective effort.

The meeting was attended by the Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, members of the party’s Governance Advisory Council (GAC), members of the National Assembly and Lagos State House of Assembly, commissioners and other members of the Lagos State Executive Council from Lagos East, as well as council chairmen, APC local government chairmen and other party leaders.
