Giwa Commends Lagosians, LASTMA Officers Over Successful 24-Hour Night Operations During Detty December
The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, has commended Lagos residents for their exemplary civic compliance and discipline during the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) 24-hour Night Gang Operations carried out across the state during the 2025 “Detty December” festive season.
Giwa gave the commendation at the weekend while hosting officers and men of LASTMA at a New Year White Party and Recognition of Meritorious Service organised in honour of the agency’s personnel.
He described the cooperation of Lagosians and the motoring public as instrumental to the remarkable orderliness, improved safety and smooth traffic flow recorded during the usually high-pressure festive period. According to him, the season, typically characterised by heavy vehicular congestion, increased nightlife and heightened road usage, witnessed an unprecedented level of voluntary compliance with traffic laws.
The Special Adviser noted that this positive disposition significantly enhanced LASTMA’s operational efficiency, ensuring unhindered vehicular movement along major corridors such as Ikoyi, Victoria Island and the Lekki–Ajah axis, even during late-night hours.
“The outcomes achieved during the LASTMA 24-Hour Night Gang Operations are a compelling testament to the growing traffic consciousness and civic maturity of Lagosians,” Giwa said. “The patience, restraint and law-abiding ethos demonstrated by motorists and commuters alike are worthy of public recognition.”
Giwa also praised LASTMA officers for their professionalism, dedication and exemplary conduct during the operations, describing their performance as outstanding and reflective of the agency’s evolving institutional capacity.
He further paid tribute to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his consistent support, visionary leadership and sustained investments in the transportation sector. According to him, the governor’s backing in areas such as logistics, personnel welfare, capacity building and policy direction has strengthened LASTMA’s responsiveness and professionalism.
Looking ahead, Giwa disclosed that the agency is set to transition from conventional traffic control to a technology-driven incident management framework in 2026. He said the new approach would be powered by real-time surveillance systems, rapid-response mechanisms and data-driven operations aimed at reducing road incidents, improving response times and enhancing overall road safety.
“In 2026, LASTMA will move beyond routine traffic control to proactive incident management. Technology will be at the core of our operations to ensure safer, smarter and more efficient roads for all users,” he stated.
The Special Adviser urged Lagosians to sustain the culture of compliance, patience and mutual respect on the roads, stressing that effective traffic management remains a shared responsibility between government agencies and the public.
The New Year get-together also served as a morale-boosting platform to celebrate the dedication and sacrifices of LASTMA personnel. Officers who distinguished themselves in the discharge of their duties were formally recognised and rewarded with gift items.
Top government officials and key stakeholders were present at the event, which reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to excellence in service delivery as it enters the new operational year with renewed resolve.
