POJAN Visits Transport, Security Expert Oluwasegun Musa, Hails 35 Years of Service

The Professional Online Journalists Association of Nigeria (POJAN) has paid a courtesy visit to renowned transport planner, security consultant, and logistics expert, Mr. Oluwasegun Alade Musa, who used the occasion to reflect on his 35 years of professional experience, leadership philosophy, and commitment to national security and humanitarian service.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Musa described himself as a multidisciplinary professional with extensive experience in transportation planning, maritime operations, logistics, and security consultancy. He disclosed that February marks his 35th year in active professional service, during which he held several strategic leadership positions across Nigeria’s aviation and maritime sectors.

According to him, he served as Chairman at the Airport for 12 years and as Chairman at Apapa Port for three years. He also represented Nigeria under the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), where he handled border-related responsibilities.

A multinational business executive and family man, Mr. Musa stressed that character and integrity, rather than titles or wealth, have been the driving forces of his life. He recalled the guiding words of his late father: “Nobility of character is greater than title and wealth,” noting that the principle has shaped his values of transparency, humility, truthfulness, and service to humanity.

He emphasized that humility is essential for leadership and success, explaining that it fosters cooperation and public support. Mr. Musa also highlighted the importance of prayer, dedication, and hard work as foundations for achievement.

Reflecting on his academic and professional journey, Mr. Musa revealed that his original ambition in the 1980s was to become an aeronautic engineer, having secured admission into universities in the United States, including Miami University and the University of Alabama. However, circumstances prevented him from travelling abroad. He later pursued studies in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, obtained technical certifications, and went on to acquire multiple degrees and postgraduate qualifications in Shipping Management, Maritime Technology, Transport Planning, International Relations, Security, and Forensic Investigation from institutions including Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Lagos State University (LASU), and the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

Currently, Mr. Musa serves as the Deputy State Commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN). He previously held the position of Assistant Commander of Surveillance for Lagos State. He also disclosed that he contested as the African Democratic National Party (ANDP) governorship aspirant in Lagos State during the 2019 elections, where he developed a comprehensive security framework for the state, including an initiative known as Instant Response on Crime.

Assessing Nigeria’s transportation and security architecture, Mr. Musa stated that the country has yet to attain optimal effectiveness. He called for greater seriousness, commitment, and strategic intelligence sharing, stressing that security should be seen as a collective responsibility rather than the duty of uniformed personnel alone. He advocated for increased intelligence awareness among citizens.

Drawing comparisons with countries such as China, where he has business interests, Mr. Musa highlighted the use of surveillance technology, vehicle cameras, and real-time monitoring systems as effective tools for crime prevention. He urged Nigeria to adopt similar measures, particularly within the commercial transport sector, to enhance safety and accountability.

He further cautioned against the misplacement of intelligence, noting that information must be directed to the appropriate authorities—such as the police, fire service, or other relevant agencies—to avoid compromise and inefficiency.

Beyond security and governance, Mr. Musa spoke on philanthropy and service to humanity, revealing that for more than 20 years, he has dedicated his birthdays to visiting orphanages, hospitals, and the less privileged. He noted that true fulfillment comes from helping others, adding that wealth and abundance are meant to be shared.

Members of the POJAN delegation commended Mr. Musa for his vast experience, patriotic insights, and sustained commitment to national development and humanitarian causes, describing the interaction as enlightening and inspiring.
