Sola Giwa Boosts Grassroots Economy Empowers 500 in Lagos Island East
The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, has empowered 500 constituents in Lagos Island East with seed capital grants, reinforcing his commitment to grassroots development and inclusive economic growth.
The empowerment programme, held in Lagos Island, drew party leaders, government officials and community stakeholders, who praised Giwa for his sustained interventions and support for residents and party members.
Speaking at the event, the APC Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Rasheed Shobalaju, described Giwa as a major pillar of support to the local government, noting that he has created more employment opportunities for residents than any other political figure in the area.
“Hon. Sola Giwa has consistently intervened in the affairs of his people and shown unwavering commitment to their welfare,” Shobalaju said, pledging his continued support.
The Deputy APC Chairman in Lagos State, Hon. Moshood Mayegun, and a former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Kamaldeen Olorunoje, also commended Giwa’s far-reaching impact and relevance in grassroots politics.
A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Lanre Afinnih, highlighted Giwa’s contributions during his tenure in the Assembly, particularly his role as former Chairman of the House Committee on Wealth Creation. Afinnih recalled the passage of a landmark bill that enabled Lagos residents to access business loans at minimal interest rates, adding that Giwa’s interventions have eased pressure on elected officials. He urged residents to register with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Chairman of Lagos Island East LCDA, Hon. Muibi Folawiyo, described the initiative as laudable, noting that Giwa is the only appointed official, in his capacity as Special Adviser on Transportation, to embark on such a large-scale empowerment programme.
“What Hon. Sola Giwa has done today demonstrates true leadership and commitment to the people,” Folawiyo said.
In his address, Giwa stressed the importance of party unity, explaining that the empowerment programme was designed to appreciate loyal party members and encourage broader participation in party activities.
“We cannot be here today without the party,” he said. “This empowerment is to appreciate our members and encourage more people to come out for party registration.”
He disclosed that while the initial plan was to empower 200 beneficiaries, the number was increased to 500 to accommodate more participants. Giwa added that the initiative reflects his dedication as a grassroots politician committed to uplifting his community.
