10,000 Lagos Drivers Set to Benefit from State’s Health and Safety Program

The Lagos State Government is set to launch a comprehensive health and safety initiative for professional drivers, aiming to enhance road safety and protect lives across the state. The program, which targets truck and commercial drivers who are crucial to Lagos’ economy and logistics sector, will run from Monday, 9th February to Thursday, 12th February 2026 at multiple strategic locations.

According to Hon. Hassan Adekoya, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport and Logistics, the initiative will cover Iyana Iba, Obalende, Lekki Free Trade Zone Parks, and Lilly Pond Bonded Terminal in Apapa. Over 10,000 drivers are expected to benefit from free eye screenings, medical consultations, corrective lenses, and substance abuse awareness sessions designed to promote responsible driving and improve road safety.

The Lagos State Government has urged transport owners, associations, and unions to encourage their members to participate and to provide access to major parks and depots for the program’s activities. The overarching goal, officials say, is to ensure that every driver leaving Lagos’ seaports, parks, and depots is physically fit, mentally alert, and visually capable of navigating the state’s roads safely.

For inquiries about the program, drivers and stakeholders can contact the Office of the SSA on Transport and Logistics at hassan.adekoya@lagosstate.gov.ng
