Ministry Reaffirms Commitment To Building Ethical Digital Citizenship.

As part of efforts towards ensuring that the young people, particularly the students are equipped with the right values, skills and emotional strength to responsibly navigate the online world, the Lagos Ministry of Youth and Social Development has organized a day sensitisation on digital resilience for the students in Education District II.

Speaking at the program held at Oriwu Senior Model College,Ikorodu, the Honourable Commissioner, Mr Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende stated that the State Government could not afford to focus on building a smart city without building the young ones with the knowledge and skills that would make them responsible and be good ambassadors of the state.

Mr Ogunlende noted that technology is a tool that could be helpful or harmful depending on what the user put it to, adding that out of ignorance many of the young ones nowadays have fallen victims to hackers in the course of navigating the online world.

On her part, the Permanent Secretary, Pharm Mrs Toyin Oke-osanyintolu stated that the program is an initiative designed to enlighten young people on  navigating the digital space safely, responsibly and with confidence in a smart and innovative state like Lagos.

"A digitally safe and resilient youth population is essential to achieving the Lagos of our aspirations.A smart economy cannot thrive if young people are unsafe online.Social inclusion cannot be fully realized if children and  young people are bullied, exploited or silenced in digital spaces. This program is therefore a direct investment both in the future of the young ones and that of Lagos State "Pharm (Mrs) Oke-osanyintolu added.

The Facilitators Mrs Lebura Olawale and Dr Kayode Adewale in their presentations on the theme,"Digital Resilience: Empowering Students for Safe and Responsible Online Engagement"took the participants through various sessions to help them have: practical understanding of online risks; skills to safeguard personal data and digital identity; confidence to report cyberbullying and online abuse; and emotional resilience to manage peer pressure and online negativity.
