Nigerian Navy Hands Over 250 Bags of Seized Rice to Customs in Badagry
The Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) Badagry has handed over 250 bags of foreign parboiled rice to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) as part of ongoing efforts to curb smuggling and other cross-border economic crimes.
The handover ceremony, which took place on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, saw the Base transfer 250 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice to the NCS Western Marine Command for further necessary action in line with established procedures.
According to the Navy, the seizure was made during a series of targeted anti-smuggling operations conducted within the Badagry axis.
The operations form part of the Nigerian Navy’s statutory mandate to support civil authorities in combating smuggling and safeguarding the nation’s maritime and border areas from economic sabotage.
Speaking on the development, naval authorities reiterated their commitment to inter-agency collaboration in tackling illicit trade and other transnational crimes that undermine Nigeria’s economy.
The Navy noted that since assuming office, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has maintained a clear vision of building a modern, agile and professional naval force dedicated to protecting Nigeria’s maritime interests and strengthening national security through synergy with other security agencies.
In line with this vision, the Forward Operating Base Badagry has intensified patrols and intelligence-driven operations across creeks and waterways within its area of responsibility, leading to the interception of smuggled goods and the disruption of illegal supply chains.
The Nigerian Navy assured the public of its continued resolve to sustain operational momentum and work closely with sister agencies to ensure a secure maritime environment and support economic stability in the country.
