NURTW Commissions Multi-Million Ultra-Modern Garage in Lagos, Names Facility After President Tinubu

National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos State Chapter, has commissioned a multi-million naira ultra-modern motor park in Ebute Meta area of Lagos, naming the facility after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The commissioning ceremony, held on Tuesday in Ebute Meta, was attended by key government officials, transport union leaders, and stakeholders in the transport sector.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was represented at the event by his Special Adviser on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, who expressed delight at the completion of the project. He described the motor park as a significant step toward achieving the Smart Lagos vision of the state government.

“It gives me great pleasure to commission this multi-million naira ultra-modern project built and named after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Giwa said. “This motor park represents the Smart Lagos we are advocating for. The facility will help reduce traffic congestion on our roads.”

He emphasized that infrastructure development requires discipline and collective responsibility, noting that projects of such magnitude are achieved through collaboration and commitment.

Giwa commended the executive members of the NURTW for initiating and completing the project, describing it as a clear example of partnership between the government and the transport union. He urged transport operators to make proper use of the facility and desist from picking up or dropping passengers along the roadside.

“They should always make use of the motor park and stop dropping passengers on the road. This facility was built to bring order and reduce traffic challenges,” he added.

Speaking on behalf of the union, the Secretary, Comrade Untima, described the park as the first of its kind in the history of the NURTW. He noted that the project reflects the union’s commitment to contributing meaningfully to society.

“This is the first project of its kind in the history of the National Union of Road Transport Workers. It aligns with what the President is doing across the country,” he said.

He further explained that the project was funded through the union’s internally generated revenue, stressing that it demonstrates accountability and transparency in the use of funds collected from members.

“Before now, people used to ask what we were doing with the money we collect. This is one of the things we are using our money to achieve, and more projects are still underway,” he added.

The newly commissioned facility is expected to improve traffic management, enhance passenger safety, and provide a more organized transport system within the Ebute Meta axis of Lagos State.
