EXPLOSIVE PETITION ROCKS CROWN FC
*Supporters Accuse Management of Financial Irregularities, as Oyo Assembly Faces Call for Urgent Probe and Dissolution
A storm of controversy has erupted around Crown Football Club following an explosive petition submitted to the Oyo State House of Assembly by concerned supporters demanding an immediate investigation into the club’s management over alleged financial mismanagement, lack of transparency and abuse of office.
The petition, signed by concerned citizens and supporters of the Ogbomoso-based football club, was formally presented under the leadership of the supporters’ chairman, Alao Dare. It calls for what the petitioners described as a “comprehensive and impartial probe” into the activities of the current management headed by General Manager Ilupeju Olusanjo Olamide.
The document contains damning allegations ranging from questionable handling of government grants to alleged misuse of the club’s name to obtain loans from unsuspecting individuals.
Grant Controversy Raises Eyebrows
One of the most striking issues raised in the petition concerns the financial support provided to the club by the Oyo State Government.
Supporters alleged that despite assurances that government grants to the club would be increased earlier in the year, the club’s monthly allocation has allegedly remained stagnant at N15 million.
The petitioners are demanding a full explanation and detailed records showing how the funds have been managed, warning that continued silence could erode public confidence in the administration of the club.
Questions Over Player Welfare
The supporters also raised alarm over what they described as disturbing irregularities in the payment of player bonuses and allowances.
According to the petition, bonuses meant for players are allegedly not paid directly into the players’ personal bank accounts, raising concerns over transparency in the disbursement of funds.
They further claimed that feeding allowances for players vary significantly without any clear standard, a situation they believe could undermine morale within the team.
The petitioners are demanding the immediate release of detailed records showing the total funds allocated for player welfare as well as documentary proof that the entitlements have actually been paid.
Allegations of Funds Paid into Personal Accounts
In one of the most serious accusations contained in the petition, the supporters alleged that club funds are sometimes transferred into individual bank accounts rather than the official club account.
They described the practice as unacceptable and potentially dangerous for the financial integrity of the club.
To address the matter, the petition calls for a forensic review of the club’s financial transactions and a full disclosure of all payments made under the current management.
Staff Left Out of Government Bonus
Another major grievance raised by the petitioners concerns the welfare of staff members of Crown FC.
According to the document, while workers across the state reportedly received a 13th-month salary from the government, employees of the football club were allegedly excluded from the payment.
The supporters are now demanding an explanation for what they described as “an unjust and discriminatory omission”, while urging authorities to ensure that the affected staff receive their due entitlements without delay.
Alleged Borrowing in the Club’s Name
Perhaps the most controversial allegation in the petition is the claim that the club’s General Manager allegedly used the name of Crown FC to obtain loans from individuals in Ogbomoso and neighbouring communities.
According to the supporters, lenders were allegedly told that government funds meant for the club had not been released.
The petition further claims that the borrowed money was allegedly used for personal purposes.
The supporters also alleged that the General Manager reportedly claimed that the state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports demanded N500,000 from him for every match played by the club, a claim the petitioners insist must be investigated thoroughly to establish the truth.
Missing Club Assets Raise Fresh Questions
The petition also raises concerns about the whereabouts of several assets belonging to the club.
Among the items the supporters want accounted for are:
Four coastal buses
Two Toyota Sienna vehicles
One Prevailer official vehicle
They also demanded transparency regarding funds reportedly allocated to the supporters’ club during the recently concluded Super 8 tournament.
Demand for Dissolution of Management
Citing what they described as a growing crisis of confidence, the petitioners called on lawmakers to dissolve the current management structure of the club.
They urged the Oyo State House of Assembly to establish a new leadership team capable of restoring accountability and professionalism to the club.
Assembly Under Pressure to Act
With the allegations now formally before the legislature, pressure is mounting on the House to initiate an urgent investigation.
The petitioners believe that only a transparent probe can uncover the truth behind the allegations and safeguard the future of Crown Football Club, a club widely regarded as a symbol of pride for the people of Ogbomoso.
Observers say the unfolding controversy could become one of the biggest administrative crises in the club’s history if the allegations are substantiated.
For supporters and stakeholders alike, the coming weeks may determine whether Crown FC emerges from the storm with renewed credibility or sinks deeper into one of the most serious governance crises ever to confront the club.
