Moshood Salvador Urges Leaders to Embrace Zakat Principles, Warns Against Consequences of Bad Leadership

Former Lagos State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos, Alhaji Moshood Salvador, has called on leaders across all levels of government to adopt the principles of zakat as a practical approach to tackling poverty and fostering national unity.

Salvador made the appeal during his 27th Annual Ramadan Lecture and Zakat Disbursement Ceremony held at Salvador Towers in Lagos.

Speaking at the event, Salvador emphasized that leadership reflects the character and choices of the people, stressing that citizens must be mindful of the values they prioritize when electing leaders.

“Leadership is according to who you are and where you are. You will be given the leader of your type,” he said. “That is why every year I keep preaching. Last year, I spoke about honesty; some years back, I spoke about unity.”

He noted that the consequences of poor leadership are now evident in the country, warning that voters who prioritize material gains over competence and integrity would ultimately bear the cost of their decisions.

“If you are so particular about material things and you vote for a bad leader, you will pay for it,” Salvador stated.

Drawing examples from global politics, he referenced political tensions in the United States, saying power struggles often turn allies into adversaries. He stressed that Nigeria must learn from global developments and make informed decisions to avoid similar challenges.
