A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Alimosho Constituency II, Kehinde Joseph, has donated newly built classroom blocks to Abanraje Secondary School in Ikotun and announced his intention to seek a third term in office.
The project, commissioned on Saturday, was named in honour of Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu. Joseph, widely known as KJ, said the initiative was aimed at addressing the challenge of limited access to secondary education in parts of the constituency.
According to him, students in areas such as Abaranje and Okerube often travel up to nine kilometres to attend school, a situation the new classrooms are expected to ease. He added that the project was inspired by advice from the First Lady to promote inclusive representation and grassroots development.
Describing the facility as a legacy project, Joseph said it belongs to the people and future generations, expressing optimism that it would help nurture professionals and leaders. He also formally declared his intention to return to the Assembly for another term.
Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, commended Joseph’s performance, describing him as a dedicated representative. He urged constituents to support the lawmaker’s re-election and reaffirmed confidence in the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, described the project as a milestone in improving educational access. He noted that the state government remains committed to strengthening infrastructure, enhancing teacher training, and expanding vocational education across schools.
The governor’s representative added that over 1,200 vocational centres have been established statewide, alongside ongoing efforts to integrate technology into the curriculum. He assured residents that the new facility would be supported with qualified teachers and additional resources.
In her remarks, the First Lady, represented by Wahab Alawiye-King, praised the lawmaker for investing in education and the future of young people. She urged the community to take ownership of the facility and encouraged students to remain focused on their studies.
Other stakeholders, including community and party leaders, also applauded the initiative and called for continued support for Joseph’s leadership. The event attracted traditional rulers, political figures, and residents from across the constituency.
