The Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has described the visit of governorship aspirant Dr. Samuel Ajose to the party secretariat as a family meeting, reaffirming that the APC remains open and fair to all aspirants ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Dr. Ajose, alongside members of the SMA Movement, paid a strategic visit to the APC state secretariat where discussions centered on his ambition to contest the governorship position in 2027.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Pastor Ojelabi said Dr. Ajose formally informed the party leadership of his intention to join the race for the state’s top seat and also shared his vision for Lagos State.

According to him, the APC leadership welcomed the aspiration and assured him of a level playing field for all contestants, irrespective of the mode of primary election eventually adopted by the party.

“Dr. Samuel Ajose came on a family visit because he is a member of our party. He came to officially tell us that he will be contesting for the governorship position in 2027 and also highlighted some of the things he intends to do,” Ojelabi said.

“We told him to make himself available to the people, and we assured him of fairness. Whether the party adopts consensus or direct primary, the APC will provide a level playing field for every aspirant.”

The APC chairman added that the party is known for internal democracy and grassroots engagement, noting that aspirants moving from one local government to another to seek support is part of the party’s political culture.

“This is what our party is known for. APC is the only party where you see aspirants moving across local governments to interact with people and seek their support. The field is open, and in the coming weeks, Nigerians will see more political activities,” he added.

Speaking after the meeting, Dr. Samuel Ajose expressed appreciation to the party leadership for the warm reception and support shown to his team.

“By the grace of God, I will be contesting. We have met with the party chairman and members, and I can say they gave us a very warm welcome,” Ajose said.

He further stated that his team would abide by whatever decision the APC leadership takes regarding the conduct of the primaries.

“They have assured us that everything will be properly put in place ahead of the election, and whatever the party decides, we will all abide by it because the party’s decision is supreme,” he said.
