The Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Cornelius Ojelabi, has said the party is closely monitoring developments following the House of Representatives primary election in the state.

Ojelabi assured party members that an election petition panel would be set up to examine complaints and grievances raised by aggrieved aspirants and make appropriate recommendations.

Speaking at the party’s secretariat in ACME, Ogba, while addressing journalists on the conduct of the primaries in some local governments under his supervision, the APC chairman expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of members at various polling units.

According to him, the massive participation reflects the growing acceptance of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Meanwhile, one of the aspirants for the Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency ticket, Hakeem Animashaun, appealed to the party leadership to launch an independent investigation into alleged irregularities during the exercise in Lagos Mainland.

Animashaun, who led supporters on a peaceful protest to the party secretariat to submit a petition, called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in areas where irregularities were reported.

The House of Representatives hopeful distanced himself and his supporters from the alleged malpractices recorded in several wards, insisting on a free, fair, and transparent process.

He said supporters were initially encouraged by the high turnout and enthusiasm surrounding the exercise but later became disappointed with how events unfolded.

Animashaun alleged that the earlier directive requiring party members to present their membership slips and valid means of identification was eventually ignored.

He further claimed that individuals who conducted the primaries in some areas lacked proper identification and election materials.

Some of his supporters, including Samson Sambakiu, Kolawole Ganiyu, and Folake Ogunlade, accused officials of the Lagos Mainland Local Government of masterminding electoral malpractices at several polling centres.

They also alleged that supporters of one of the contenders disrupted the exercise.

Seven aspirants, including the incumbent lawmaker, are contesting for the APC ticket for the Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency.
