A former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Jokotola Pelumi, has led political leaders, stakeholders, youth groups and community representatives from Epe constituency 2 in demanding political inclusion ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a press conference held at procarl hotel and suite in Eredo LCDA, Lagos State, Pelumi said the time had come for Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA to produce the next member representing Epe Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives.

Addressing party leaders,  and members of the media, the former Speaker described the gathering as a united call for “justice, fairness, equity and political inclusion” within Epe Federal Constituency.

According to him, Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA has remained politically marginalized since Nigeria’s return to democratic governance in 1999 despite its consistent support for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Pelumi noted that Epe Federal Constituency is made up of Epe Central, Eredo LCDA and Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, adding that while Epe Central and Eredo have both produced representatives over the years, Ikosi-Ejinrin has never occupied the seat.

He recalled that late Hon. Stephen Banjo represented the constituency between 1999 and 2003, while late Hon. Tunde Salau served from 2003 to 2007. Hon. Bola Gbabijo represented the constituency from 2007 to 2011, followed by Hon. Lanre Odubote from 2011 to 2015.

Pelumi further stated that the current representative, Hon. Wale Raji, has occupied the position continuously since 2015 and is expected to complete a third consecutive term in 2027.

He argued that by 2027, Epe Central would have controlled the House of Representatives seat for 20 out of 28 democratic years, while Eredo LCDA would have occupied it for eight years, leaving Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA without representation.

“Our demand is not borne out of bitterness or rebellion but from a genuine desire for fairness and democratic balance,” Pelumi said.

“No democracy can thrive where one bloc continues to dominate while another remains perpetually excluded.

Political justice demands balance and equity demands inclusion.”

The leaders appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national leadership of the APC, members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), traditional rulers and stakeholders across Epe Division to support their demand for rotational representation.

They maintained that allowing Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA to produce the next House of Representatives member in 2027 would strengthen unity, promote political stability and reinforce confidence in the APC.

The gathering ended with a strong declaration that “2027 must mark the beginning of inclusion for Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA,” insisting that the constituency deserves equal political participation after years of exclusion.
