State Policing 'll boost efforts toward tackling insecurity in Nigeria-Bariga council boss


 The Chairman of Bariga Local Council, Kolade Alabi, said he employed local methodology to curb insecurity in the council.


At a briefing in the council secretariat, Bariga, Alabi stated that security is local, hence the need to adopt local methodology in securing the communities in the council.


According to him, state policing will aid the involvement of local authorities in solving security challenges.


"What we did was that we engaged our youths in many frame. We provide employment for them and we give them that space to strive. There’s a disconnect between government and youths so what we’ve done is to breach that gap and we engaged age them in all our daily activities so that they’ll be well informed and they’ll not engage in criminal activities.All problems, all security challenges, all student problems, youths problems are local and it is only the local authority that can solve this problem. So a partnership with NDLEA, of course, will be a very good idea and I think that if we have that, we’ll have a good partnership that can be able to solve that and to strive", he said.


Alabi, who the the Chairman of CONFERENCE 57, urged Federal government to increase the revenue allocation to the Local governments.


This, he said, will aid in carrying out major projects in the council.


He said: "It is a national issue, this is an issue that is not limited to only Lagos state local government. It’s a national issue and of course I’ll tell you that we have a whole lot of things that are begging for our attention and for us to treat all those things that are begging for our attention we need more money at the local government and that was why in the recent times I have advocated that there should be a review of the allocation sharing for us. More money should come to the state and local government you know the aggregate of development that we have in a local government make the state and what we have in the state will make the entire nation to be a beautiful place so if more money comes to the state and local government and it would be a perfect thing. So there should be a review of the allocation sharing program. To me it’s obsolete, it’s outdated and should be reviewed and of course I thank the federal government that they are now doing sensitization and building a program and of course have involved all local authorities and state government in saying this allocation sharing program is
