4545 Students Sit For 2022 Science Schools Examination in Oyo State

Oyo State Government has conducted  the 2022 Competitive Entrance Examination for about Four Thousand Five Hundred and Forty-five (4,545) candidates seeking admission into the Seven Science Schools and Igbo Elerin Grammar School in the State. The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barr. Unity Bank Declares N27B Gross Earnings In H1’22, Records 23% Profit After Tax Growth

     Retail lender, Unity Bank Plc has posted gross earnings of N27.6 billion for its 2022 half-year results, representing a growth of 17% year-on-year. In its unaudited half-year financials submitted to the Nigeria Exchange Group Limited, the Bank also made significant improvements across key performance indicators. The Bank grew Profit Before Tax (PBT) by 23% which rose to N1.8 billion from N1.5 billion in the corresponding period of 2021. Profit After Tax (PAT) for the period equally increased by 23% to close at N1.6 billion from N1.382 billion in H1’21. The key highlights of the financial statements showed growth in interest and similar income, which rose 18% to N23.938 billion from N20.273 billion in the corresponding period of 2021, an indication of sustained growth in the loan book as well as improved earnings from the lender’s robust digital channels, arising from sustained investment in its digital payment infrastructure. Cornelius Ojelabi, the Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) in  Lagos State, has expressed shock at the sudden death of Mr Omotayo Sanyaolu, the Senior Special Assistant on Tertiary Education, Youth and Student Affairs to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Ojelabi described Sanyaolu,  the immediate past Youth Leader of the Lagos State Chapter of the APC, as a vibrant, committed, loyal and dedicated member  and youth mobilizer  to the progressive  course of the party in the state. Waste Management: Oyo State Government Bars PSPs from Door-to-Door/Commercial Waste Evacuation

  ...To begin rehabilitation of feeder roads The Oyo State Government has barred all former Private Sector Participants (PSPs) from engaging in any form of refuse evacuation in the state.  This directive was issued by His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde in his newsletter dated July 28, 2022.  Speaking on the new waste management architecture in Oyo State, Governor Makinde said that the authorities were aware that some disengaged PSPs had continued to work within the state. He warned that they should desist from further encroaching on the activities of the new waste managers.  Governor Makinde said, “We are aware that some Private Sector Participants (PSPs), who have been disengaged by the state, are still evacuating waste from some residential and commercial areas.   The Oyo State Government has reinstated 129 public primary school teachers, unlawfully sacked by the previous administration. The Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran stated this today, while congratulating the teachers. He said the Executive Council of Oyo State has approved that a total of 129 officers wrongly dismissed by the Oyo State Government between 2011 and 2019 for reinstatement, subject to agreeing not to demand for arrears payment for the period they were away which the state converted to leave of absence. Adeniran appreciated the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr.   ! * The second batch of Oyo State Pilgrims from the Holy land of Saudi Arabia has arrived in Lagos. A statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun from Saudi Arabia indicated this on Wednesday.  The Commissioner noted that a flight carrying the Eighty-one (81) pilgrims, touched down at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, at exactly 2:04 a.m on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. Their return comes six days after the arrival of the first batch of pilgrims from Saudi Arabia. The eighty one pilgrims left their hotels in Medina for the airport at 10 a.m Nigerian time on Tuesday. Recall that the second batch of pilgrims from the Pacesetter State left Ibadan on Tuesday 21st of June 2022 for Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, from where they were airlifted to the holy lands. He added that there are about two hundred and fifty pilgrims from Oyo awaiting airlift to Nigeria in Saudi Arabia.

Lagos Declares Work-Free Day for Civil Servants to Register, Collect PVC

  The Lagos State Government has declared four work-free days to different categories of public servants to encourage state workers to register or collect their Permanent Voters Card ahead of the 2023 general elections.   In a statement signed by the state’s Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, he said this move by the state government is to ensure that workers are encouraged to perform their civil rights. Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission recently disclosed that only seven million of the over fifteen million Lagos residents have registered for PVC. Illegal Fees: Oyo Govt. Sanctions Head-teachers for Denying Pupils Access to Exam Hall

        The Oyo State Government has sanctioned some Head-teachers for collecting illegal fees and denying pupils access to examination halls during the ongoing Public Primary Schools Unified Examination.   The Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran disclosed this today while monitoring the Exams in Ibadan.   Dr. Nureni Adeniran said five Head-teachers of Methodist Basic School, (School 1-5), Gan-gansi were found culpable in the alleged illegal collection of fees, spearheaded by the School-Based Management Committee of the school, who chased the pupils home.   Adeniran, who said the present administration has abolished collection of any development Levy in all schools across the state, frowned at the School authority's role in compelling parents to contribute the said fee.   "No doubt SBMCs, PTAs can contribute to the development of their local schools. MultiChoice Price Increase: Tribunal to Rule on Monday

  The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) Tribunal sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, adjourned ruling in the matter between an Abuja-based lawyer, Festus Onifade, Coalition of Nigerian Consumers, and pay TV service provider,  MultiChoice Nigeria, Limited, till Monday. This was the outcome at a sitting, which dragged till late on Thursday At the hearing, MultiChoice asked the tribunal to decline to hear the suit challenging the increase of the subscription fees for its television services on grounds of jurisdiction.  Onifade and the Coalition of Nigeria Consumers had dragged  MultiChoice, the operators of DStv and GOtv platforms, to the Tribunal following the announcement by the company in March 2022 that the subscription rates for the various bouquets on its platforms will go up on 1 April 2022.     In the suit in which the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Council is the second defendant, Onifade prayed the tribunal for an order restraining MultiChoic
