Ogbara Heritage Tour: Celebrating Culture, Leadership, and History with Over 200 Children

 


Lagos, Nigeria – The Ogbara Heritage Tour, hosted by Hon. Kafilat Adetola Ogbara, Member of the Federal House of Representatives representing the Kosofe Federal Constituency, brought together over 200 children from public and private primary schools in the constituency. The event, held at the Lagos State Archives and Records Bureau, aimed to instill a deep appreciation of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage among the youth, while also promoting intergenerational understanding.


In her keynote address, Hon. Ogbara underscored the importance of Nigeria’s cultural diversity, stating, “Our nation, with its over 250 ethnic groups, is a treasure trove of traditions, languages, and customs that have shaped who we are today.” She emphasized the importance of passing these traditions on to the next generation, encouraging the children to take pride in their roots and cultural identity as Nigerians.


The participants were taken on a comprehensive historical tour of Lagos, exploring its development from a settlement to a colony, and later, its role as Nigeria’s federal capital and economic powerhouse. Led by expert tour guides and welcomed by the Director General of the Lagos State Archives and Records Bureau, the children explored the media repository and photo gallery, which documented key moments in Lagos’ history. They also visited a mini museum housing artifacts unique to Lagos, and examined archives detailing the records of both the state and the nation.


A variety of engaging activities were organized to enhance the children’s cultural experience. The Royal Father of the day, the Onikosi of Ikosi-Isheri, led a local cuisine inspection and tasting session, offering the children an opportunity to interact with their heritage on an intergenerational level. In addition to cultural discussions, games and learning activities were held, complementing the day’s educational focus.


Adding a vibrant element to the event, a cultural troupe performed traditional dances and music, while NABU, an international publishing firm dedicated to promoting literacy in indigenous languages, provided Yoruba reading materials for the children. This further enriched the cultural awareness and literacy development goals of the program.


In her closing remarks, Hon. Ogbara reiterated the theme of unity in diversity, stating, “Our heritage is our strength. It is what unites us in our diversity and drives our shared aspirations.” She called on the youth to become guardians of their culture, ensuring its survival in an evolving world.


The Ogbara Heritage Tour stands as a testament to Hon. Ogbara’s commitment to promoting cultural awareness and supporting the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The event reinforced the importance of strong leadership in fostering a vibrant, united society rooted in cultural pride.


As the day concluded, the children departed with a greater appreciation for their cultural heritage and a deeper sense of identity, embodying the resilience and unity that define Nigeria.

Shettima Advice Couple on Preserving Sanctity of Marriage

  The Vice President,of Nigeria Senator Kashim Shettima, has advice the young couples to always preserve the sanctity of marriage as enshrined in the holy books, especially the affirmation of its importance and sanctity in the Qur’an.
