NCC Releases Draft Guidance on Unutilized Recharges, Calls for Stakeholder Input

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has released a draft guidance document addressing the management of unutilized and unclaimed recharges in the country’s telecommunications sector.

Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, announced the development in a statement to the press, noting that the draft guidance is now available for review on the Commission’s official website, www.ncc.gov.ng. He emphasized that this initiative aligns with the NCC’s mandate under the Nigerian Communications Act of 2003, particularly Section 57, which empowers the Commission to enact regulatory measures to enhance sector efficiency.

To facilitate stakeholder engagement, the NCC will host a Virtual Stakeholders Forum on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. The forum will provide an avenue for industry stakeholders to examine the draft guidance and offer feedback on the proposed regulations. According to Maida, a virtual link to join the discussion will be accessible on the NCC website from April 7, 2025.

The NCC is inviting written comments and suggestions from stakeholders regarding the draft guidance. All submissions must be sent to the Commission by Friday, April 4, 2025. Interested parties can direct their submissions to the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission, Plot 423, Aguiyi Ironsi Street, Maitama, Abuja, or via email at stakeholders@ncc.gov.ng.

This move underscores the NCC’s commitment to transparency and collaboration in shaping policies that impact the telecommunications sector. Stakeholders are encouraged to participate actively in the review process to ensure inclusive and effective regulation.
