One Dead, Eight Rescued in Ajegunle Building Collapse

Tragedy struck on Thursday morning when a three-storey building with a penthouse undergoing manual demolition collapsed at No. 28, Baale Alayabiagba Street, Alayabiagba Community, Ajegunle, Apapa area of Lagos State.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the incident, which occurred at about 11:09 a.m., trapped several workers under the rubble.

Preliminary reports indicated that the building was being manually demolished when it suddenly gave way, collapsing on the workers on site.



LASEMA confirmed that eight adult male workers were rescued alive from the debris, while one adult male was recovered dead. The rescued victims received first aid treatment from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) before being taken to Ajeromi General Hospital for further medical attention.

Responders at the scene included personnel from LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), LASAMBUS, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Nigeria Police Force.

Emergency teams have since cordoned off the area while search and rescue operations continue to ensure that no additional victims remain trapped.



Officials have urged residents to stay clear of the site to allow rescue operations to proceed smoothly as investigations continue into the cause of the collapse.
