CSOs Applaud Rescue of Abducted Worshippers, Students — Commend Tinubu, Security Agencies
A coalition of civil society and non-governmental organizations under the aegis of the Coalition for Good Governance (CGG) has praised the Federal Government and security agencies for the successful rescue of abducted worshippers and schoolchildren in Kwara, Niger, and Kebbi States.
In a press statement issued on 26 November 2025 and signed by its leaders, the coalition lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as his commitment to ensuring the safe return of kidnapped Nigerians.
The statement referenced the rescue of 38 worshippers of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, Kwara State; 51 students of St. Mary’s Private and Primary School, Papiri, Niger State; and 24 students of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Kebbi State.
CGG spokesperson Nelson Ekujumi commended security personnel for what he called their “gallantry and dedication,” adding that the trauma suffered by the victims and their families underscores the need for intensified efforts against criminality.
The coalition urged security agencies to “redouble their efforts” to uphold the President’s promise of safeguarding lives and property nationwide. It also called on state and local governments to fully assume their constitutional responsibilities in security management rather than relying solely on the Federal Government.
Citizens, the group said, must also play a role by cooperating with law-enforcement agencies, sharing intelligence, and rejecting divisive rhetoric that hampers national security. The coalition also condoled with families of victims who lost their lives during the abduction incidents.
Coalition Speaks on Nnamdi Kanu’s Conviction
In the latter part of its statement, the Coalition for Good Governance also reacted to the recent judicial verdict involving separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu. The group praised the judiciary for what it described as the fair and resolute handling of the case.
It commended Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, for what it termed “perseverance” throughout the proceedings. According to Ekujumi, the judgment represents justice for victims of violence attributed by authorities to the proscribed IPOB/ESN group.
(Note: The group’s characterizations and allegations are reported as its views.)
CGG strongly criticized renewed calls from some quarters for a political solution or release of Kanu following the court’s decision, describing such demands as “reckless” and “insensitive.” It urged President Tinubu to resist pressure to intervene, stating that allowing the judicial process to run its full course reinforces the rule of law.
Reaffirming its stance, the coalition urged the President to “ignore” appeals for Kanu’s release, insisting that doing otherwise would undermine Nigeria’s global image and counter-terrorism efforts.
The statement concluded with a message of solidarity:
“God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
