The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, has extended warm and festive greetings to stakeholders in the Nigerian maritime industry as they celebrate the yuletide season. In a statement issued by the Deputy Director/Head Public Relations of the Agency, Osagie Edward, Mobereola reflected on the achievements of 2025, describing it as "a good year" for the industry, marked by significant milestones and progress.

Highlighting notable accomplishments, Mobereola cited the successful maintenance of zero piracy attacks in Nigerian waters throughout 2025, a testament to the agency's commitment to maritime security. Additionally, Nigeria deposited three Instruments of Accession to IMO Conventions signed by President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, demonstrating the country's dedication to international maritime cooperation. The election of Nigeria into the Category C Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) was also recognized as a major achievement.

The DG expressed profound gratitude to stakeholders, saying, "We couldn’t have done this without our stakeholders who have contributed in various ways in the course of their operations during the year. We see you, we thank you, and we felicitate with you during this yuletide season." He urged industry operators to "brace up for the new year with hope of better times," emphasizing NIMASA's unwavering commitment to maritime safety, security, environmental protection, and adherence to conventions.

"We appreciate the weight of our renewed responsibility by virtue of Nigeria’s membership of the IMO Council," Mobereola noted, assuring that the agency will redouble efforts to sustain maritime excellence. "To whom much is given, much is definitely expected. You can therefore be sure of an increased momentum in our resolve to sustain maritime safety, security, environmental protection, and adherence to relevant conventions and protocols with renewed vigour."

Mobereola acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, industry stakeholders, NIMASA management and staff, and all Nigerians, expressing optimism for a brighter future for the maritime sector in 2026.
