Soludo Signs ₦766bn Anambra 2026 Budget, Approves Three Key Laws

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, approving a total budget of ₦766 billion for the state, alongside three other critical legislations aimed at strengthening governance and service delivery.

The signing ceremony, which took place at the Light House in Awka, marks a significant step in the state’s fiscal planning and development agenda for the 2026 fiscal year. The budget was initially presented to the Anambra State House of Assembly at ₦757 billion but was revised upward to ₦766 billion following extensive reviews and deliberations by the Eighth Assembly.

According to the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime, the 2026 Appropriation Law provides the financial blueprint for key government priorities, including economic growth, accelerated infrastructure development and improved social welfare programmes across the state.

Governor Soludo described the budget as a strategic tool designed to translate policy objectives into tangible outcomes for the people of Anambra. He noted that the focus of the spending plan is on areas that directly impact citizens’ livelihoods and long-term prosperity.

“This budget is more than figures on paper; it is a carefully crafted plan to deliver on our promises to Ndi Anambra. We have prioritised the most critical needs of our communities to ensure effective use of public resources,” the governor said.

In addition to the appropriation law, Governor Soludo also assented to three other bills, underscoring his administration’s commitment to institutional reforms and sustainable development. The newly signed laws are the Anambra State Mission Schools of Nursing and Midwifery (Amendment No. 3) Law, 2025; the Anambra State Taxes, Levies and Presumptive Tax (Approved List for Collection) Law, 2025; and the Anambra State Correctional Service Law, 2025.

Commending the Anambra State House of Assembly for its role in the legislative process, Governor Soludo praised the lawmakers for their diligence and collaboration with the executive arm of government. He noted that the slight increase in the budget size reflects careful consideration and shared commitment to the state’s development goals.

“Our productive partnership with the House of Assembly has been instrumental in delivering laws that will fast-track growth and prosperity in Anambra State. With the budget now signed, we can proceed to implementation,” he added.

The governor reaffirmed that transparency, accountability and inclusive governance remain central to his administration, stressing that the newly enacted laws would create an enabling environment for efficient service delivery and long-term economic growth.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze; Majority Leader, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme; Hon. Ejike Okechukwu; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi; Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Prof. (Mrs.) Sylva Chika Ifemeje; Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake; and other top government officials.
