The Lagos State Government has announced plans to endorse legislative aspirants capable of effectively representing and communicating the agenda of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

This decision was part of resolutions reached at the 19th Executive and Legislative Parley, a three-day event held at Eko Hotels and Suites.

The forum, organized by the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, focused on the theme “Equal Participation in Governance,” emphasizing collaboration across government institutions to advance the state’s THEMES+ development agenda.

The parley brought together key stakeholders, including Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers from both the National Assembly and Lagos State House of Assembly, as well as party leaders and local government officials.

In a communiqué signed by the Special Adviser on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen, the forum stressed the importance of stronger collaboration among the executive, legislative, and judicial arms of government to improve policy implementation and governance outcomes.

A major highlight of the resolutions was the state’s plan to fast-track the establishment of a Lagos-owned airline, a move aimed at boosting economic growth and connectivity.

The parley also called for improved coordination among the three arms of government through enhanced communication, cooperation, and consensus-building. Participants emphasized the need for structured engagement between government and party structures to ensure grassroots inclusion in decision-making processes.

To strengthen political cohesion ahead of 2027, the forum urged closer synergy between the government and party leadership. It also recommended early engagement between the executive and legislature during budget preparation, alongside sustained dialogue on policy formulation.

Additionally, the communiqué proposed institutionalizing quarterly meetings involving the executive, federal and state lawmakers to align priorities and review performance. It also suggested restructuring future parley sessions to allow more closed-door discussions among key political stakeholders.

On electoral participation, the parley called for intensified voter mobilization and awareness campaigns, particularly around Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), to deepen democratic engagement across the state.

The forum concluded with a commitment by the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement to organize a 20th edition of the parley before the end of the current administration to assess progress and gather feedback.
