Rotary Club Iyaganku Ibadan Installs Otunba Oyedapo Idowu as 38th President

 


The Rotary Club of Iyaganku Ibadan has installed Rotarian Otunba Oyedapo Richard Idowu as its 38th President for the 2026/2027 Rotary year, with a renewed commitment to creating lasting impact through humanitarian service and community development.

The investiture ceremony, which also featured the induction of the club’s Board of Directors and a fundraising campaign, was held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The event attracted prominent Rotarians and Rotaractors from Oyo State and beyond, as well as family members, friends and other distinguished guests who gathered to witness the investiture and celebrate the new leadership of the club.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were the District Governor, District 9126, Rotarian Olaniyi Amoo Okin; the guest speaker, Dr Mrs Olamide Alao-Akala; the Oloje of Igbasi Akoko Kingdom in Ondo State, Oba Adeniji Abayomi Adeleye; Chairman, Oyo State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Akinwale Akinwale; Alhaji Agbaakin Ariyibi Ajagbe; Mr Nelson Ekujumi; Pharmacists Aderemi Omotoso and Tosin Ishola; Prophet Olubusayo Adegbola; Engr. Dimeji Morakinyo; Mr Sunday Adegbite, Bursar, Federal College of Education, Oyo; Architect Akinpelu, among others.

Speaking on the theme, “Creating Lasting Impact,” the guest speaker, Dr Mrs Olamide Alao-Akala, emphasised the importance of responsible and visionary leadership in achieving sustainable development.

She said effective leadership requires the ability to mobilise people and resources towards achieving meaningful goals, while creating opportunities for innovation and collaboration.

“A leader must be accountable, create room for new ideas and build partnerships even beyond his immediate environment in order to create a lasting impact,” she said.

Dr Alao-Akala congratulated the Rotary Club of Iyaganku Ibadan and the newly installed president, describing Otunba Idowu as a leader with the capacity and qualities required to take the club to greater heights.

Following his installation, Rotarian Otunba Oyedapo Richard Idowu assumed office and presided over his first meeting before delivering his acceptance speech.

He expressed appreciation to members of the club for the confidence reposed in him, stressing that the honour was not only significant to him but also to his family.

The new president pledged to work closely with the Board of Directors and members of the club to advance its humanitarian programmes and deliver meaningful interventions in the community, in line with the ideals of Rotary International.



Otunba Idowu also called for greater involvement of corporate organisations and philanthropists in humanitarian initiatives, noting that government alone could not address all the needs of society.

“Government alone cannot reach all the nooks and crannies of society; hence, corporate organisations and philanthropists are enjoined to key into the vision of Rotary Club to touch lives,” he said.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the fundraising campaign organised to support the club’s humanitarian and community development projects.

The event also featured the presentation of awards to distinguished Nigerians in recognition of their contributions to humanity and community development.

Among the award recipients were the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji; Engr. Tayo Olajubu; Iyalaje Oyeyinsola Ajagbe; Prof. Olusayo Adegbola; Akogun Yinka Afonja; Pharmacist Aderemi Omotoso; and Dr Oladapo Olanipekun, SAN, among others.

The award recipients and other well-wishers also made financial pledges in support of the club’s humanitarian activities.

The investiture ceremony ended with a renewed commitment by the new leadership and members of the Rotary Club of Iyaganku Ibadan to strengthen partnerships, expand its humanitarian interventions and create a lasting impact during the 2026/2027 Rotary year.
