Sanwo-Olu Commissions Agege Fresh Food Hub to Strengthen Lagos Food Security

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned the Agege Fresh Food Hub at Pen Cinema, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening food security and improving the distribution of food across the state.


The facility, situated on a 7,000-square-metre site in Agege, is designed to provide a modern and organised platform for the trading, storage and distribution of fresh food.

The hub boasts a 4,000-square-metre trading floor with capacity for approximately 350 to 400 traders, an 800-metric-tonne dry storage facility and about 300 metric tonnes of cold storage capacity.


It also features a purpose-built seafood section, parking facilities for approximately 80 to 90 vehicles and 10 electric vehicle charging points.


The Agege Fresh Food Hub brings together farmers, aggregators, bulk dealers, commissioned agents, retailers, institutional buyers and consumers on a structured platform aimed at improving efficiency across the food supply chain.



The facility is equipped with systems for produce reception, quality control, storage, inventory management, sanitation and waste reduction, helping to minimise post-harvest losses and improve the availability of food 


The project is part of Lagos State’s broader hub-and-spoke food distribution network, which is designed to improve the movement of food from producers to consumers while bringing wholesale and retail distribution closer to communities.


Under the arrangement, the Central Food Security Systems and Logistics Hub at Ketu-Ereyun will serve as the major distribution hub supplying middle-level food hubs across the state.


The Agege and Mushin food hubs will subsequently support the distribution of food to communities, creating a more efficient and coordinated food supply chain.



 commissioning of the Agege Fresh Food Hub marks another step in the Lagos State Government’s efforts to develop modern food infrastructure, support food traders and build a more resilient food distribution system for the benefit of residents.

  A member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Deputy Chief Whip, Yusuf Oladeni Adebisi, has formally resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), citing unresolved internal crisis within the party.
