  Seven Feared Dead As Soldiers Open Fire On Protesting Staff Of Dangote Sugar Company In Adamawa Walcomms   -   0 Seven persons have sustained fatal injuries and are feared dead at Dangote Sugar Company, in Gyawana, Adamawa State owned by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote. Reports from the area, which is about 70 kilometers from Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, indicate that the soldiers opened fire on the protesters around 5pm today. A resident of Gyawana told SaharaReporters that soldiers, despatched for the illegal operation, were hired by the management of the sugar company to chase the protesters away. The soldiers, who reportedly came to the sugar company in four Toyota Hilux vans, allegedly left their duty post at Numan bridge.

Osun Pension Arrears: Oyetola releases another N909 million

The Governor of the State of Osun, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, as part of his commitment to improve the welfare of retired civil servants and workers of the State, has released the sum of Nine Hundred and Nine Million Naira (N 909,000,000) to further offset pension arrears of retired officers of the State civil service. In a press release signed by the Head of Service, Dr Festus Olowogboyega Oyebade, the sum of Five Hundred and Eight Million Naira (N 508,000,000) of the released sum was approved for the payment of retired civil servants, while an additional sum of One Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N 150,000,000) was approved for the payment of retirees under the contributory pensions scheme. He added that an additional Fifty Million Naira (N 50,000,000) was approved for the payment of gratuities of retired officers under the old pension scheme. The Government of the State of Osun wishes to announce its decision to reopen the Inisha Town Central Mosque, following the ongoing peaceful resolution of the crisis that plagued the community. The government had ordered an indefinite closure of the Mosque to prevent the possibilities of an intra-religious or communal crisis trailing the Town's inability to choose its substantive Imam. But with this new directive, worshippers can now congregate at the Mosque for their Juma'at and Eid prayers. The government hopes that the community will justify the confidence reposed in it, to allow peace to continue to reign.

The House of Representatives, during a sitting on Tuesday, has urged the Nigerian Police to stop the ongoing media trial of Ms. Chidinma Ojukwu, the prime suspect in the murder of the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Usifo Ataga.  This was a motion of urgent public importance moved by Oluyole Federal Constituency Representative, Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe at plenary.  The lawmaker who also Chairs the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs, raised concerns over the unending parade and media trial of the suspect by the Nigerian Police, she said "This motion is not about Chidinma, her ethnicity, gender or her background, it's is about doing things right and following due process of the law, it is about the broader issues of police violation of Human rights."
