Fresh Tensions Erupt at Owode Motor Spare Parts Market Despite Court Order

  Tensions flared once again at the Owode Motor Spare Parts Market in Lagos early Thursday morning as alleged landgrabbers, accompanied by heavily armed policemen and thugs, reportedly stormed the market and began a renewed wave of demolitions, despite a standing court injunction. According to traders at the scene, the early morning operation involved the use of caterpillars to demolish shops, while police operatives fired shots into the air to disperse resisting market occupants. Several traders were allegedly injured in the fracas, with pictorial and video evidence said to support the claims.   The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, has unequivocally admonished motorists to desist from making illicit payments to touts  for illegal parking on bridges and other open spaces across Lagos State. This directive comes in response to reports indicating that private vehicle owners have been engaging in transactions with street urchins for unauthorized parking privileges at various locations within the metropolis. Hon. Giwa underscored the imperative of strict adherence to government-installed road signage and urban furniture, which explicitly delineate designated “No Parking” zones. He emphasized that noncompliance contributes significantly to congestion and impedes the seamless flow of traffic.
