Adekunle Family Pettiions Makinde Over Unlawful Detention

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE GOVERNOR OF OYO STATE, HE SEYI MAKINDE ABOUT MY UNLAWFUL DETENTION AND AN ATTEMPT TO NULLIFY THE COURT JUDGEMENT BY THE LAND GRABBING TEAM OF GOVERNOR SEYI MAKINDE OF OYO STATE.

On behalf of the ADEKUNLE FAMILY of ......., I write to express my deep dissatisfaction and grave concern regarding the actions of the Land Grabbers inaugurated under your administration.

In recent months, a distressing situation has unfolded involving a land dispute between the OLOMODE FAMILY and the ADEKUNLE FAMILY that had been legally resolved through our judicial system. The court, in its wisdom, ruled in favor of the ADEKUNLE FAMILY as the rightful owner of the disputed land, a judgement passed 30years ago and also renewed few months ago by the OYO HIGH COURT OF JUSTICE, IBADAN. A court execution was also applied and subsequently carried out to clearly establish the boundaries and measurements of the land by the Oyo High Court of Justice, Oyo State Surveyor General and Oyo State Commissioner of Police, in accordance to the rule of law.

However, instead of respecting the court's judgment and the legal process, the occupants of the land not only refused to comply but also resorted to violence and also erase the court order written on their structures with cements and paints. When I attempted to assert my legal rights and access the land, I was physically assaulted which I reported at the police station. What is even more disconcerting is that these individuals collaborated with the Land Grabbing team of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state to arrest and have me as well as my lawyer, driver and son detained for an already extended period of four days till now.

This prolonged detention blatantly violates our constitutional rights, which stipulate that no one should be detained for more than 24 hours without due process. It is deeply distressing to witness such abuse of power and disregard for the law by a team that is assumed meant to uphold justice and protect the rights of citizens on issues relating to land.

Governor Seyi Makinde , I implore you to investigate this matter thoroughly and take swift and decisive action to rectify this injustice. It is crucial that we preserve the integrity of our legal system and ensure that court judgments are respected and enforced. The actions of the Land Grabbing Team not only undermine the authority of our courts but also erode the trust of citizens in our government.

I kindly request your intervention to:

1. Ensure my safety and the safety of my family as we rightfully take possession of our family land as established by the Oyo State High Court of Justice.

2. Establish the right accorded to the Land Grabbing team; to let the citizens and residents know if this unlawful detainment and act by the team are one of which the administration granted.

3. Ditto to the above, if negative, Conduct a transparent and impartial investigation into the actions of the Land Grabbing team and hold those responsible for my unlawful detention accountable.

4. Take immediate steps to prevent any further abuse of power by the Land Grabbing Committee and to restore faith in our legal system.

Our democracy thrives when the rule of law is upheld, and justice prevails. I have faith that you will take the necessary steps to address this matter promptly and restore the faith of the citizens in our government's commitment to justice and the rule of law.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter, and I look forward to a swift resolution while I am still been detained here at the testing ground.

Necessary documents to back up all our assertions are available on request.
