Nigerians have been assured of the safety and efficiency of railway services across the nation, as the newly appointed Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Mr. Kayode Opeifa, pledged to revitalize and expand railway operations, including extending services to the Oshogbo territory in Osun State to better serve the citizens of Nigeria.
Mr. Opeifa made this declaration during a Thanksgiving service and celebration party held on Thursday at his Mulero, Agege residence in Lagos, to commemorate his recent appointment. He expressed profound gratitude to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve and vowed to discharge his duties with utmost dedication and diligence.
In his speech, Mr. Opeifa highlighted the federal government's efforts in supporting railway infrastructure, mentioning the progress of the Green, Red, and Blue lines. He emphasized that Lagos State remains a critical hub for railway development and pledged continued support to enhance transportation services in the state.
"I have always regarded Lagos as my home. Should there be a need for my service when I am unavailable, the next person to call is Hon. Sola Giwa," he remarked. He further acknowledged Hon. Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Transportation, as his former personal assistant and student at Lagos State University, describing his achievements as a source of pride.
The Chairman of the Arewa Community of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Alhaji Saadu Gulma, congratulated Mr. Opeifa and expressed confidence in his ability to deliver on his mandate, citing his inclusive leadership style during his tenure as Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation. "I fully support him as a bona fide member of the APC and pray for his good health, success, and achievements," he affirmed.
Hon. Samuel Adejare of the SABACO family also extended his felicitations and wished Mr. Opeifa progressive blessings.
Mr. Ogunbiyi Olatunde Davies (Tunye) lauded Mr. Opeifa's appointment, describing him as a seasoned transportation expert. "He is well-deserving of this role, and I am confident that Nigerians can expect exemplary service from him," Mr. Davies asserted. He concluded with prayers for Mr. Opeifa's success in his new role.
Additionally, Mr. Ogunbiyi declared his political ambition to contest for the House of Assembly seat for Ikeja Constituency 2 in the 2027 general elections. He pledged to be a capacity-building leader if elected by God's grace.
The event was a moment of celebration, prayer, and renewed commitment to public service, with attendees expressing optimism for the future of the Nigerian railway system under Mr. Opeifa's leadership.
