Onigbongbo LCDA Hosts Elders’ Retreat to Promote Mental and Physical Wellbeing
The Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has organized a special retreat for senior citizens within the community, aimed at promoting their mental and physical wellbeing. The event was held at the Dr. Abayomi Finnih Recreational Centre in Lagos and was well attended by elders across the LCDA.
In her remarks, the Chairperson of Onigbongbo LCDA, Hon. Barr. Rekiyah Olufunke Hassan, emphasized the importance of celebrating and caring for the elderly beyond the usual palliative distributions.
“Our elders deserve more than just handouts. Their mental health and social wellbeing are equally important,” she said. “Many of them spend their days indoors without any form of social interaction. This retreat gives them a chance to connect, interact, and rejuvenate.”
Also speaking at the event, a prominent leader in the LCDA and the host of the event, Dr. Abayomi Finnih, urged the elderly to prioritize healthy living. He advised them to maintain a balanced diet, get adequate rest, and adhere strictly to prescribed medications.
The retreat featured a variety of activities including health talks, medical check-ups, recreational games, and the distribution of gifts to participants. The atmosphere was lively as the elders engaged in games and socialized with one another in a warm and relaxed setting.
The initiative was widely praised by attendees, who expressed gratitude to the LCDA for recognizing their contributions to society and creating a platform that promotes their overall wellbeing.
