Mrs Sanwo-Olu Hails LASEMA’s Resilience at Christmas Carol Service

Wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has commended first responders in the state for their resilience and dedication to emergency and disaster management throughout the outgoing year.

Dr Sanwo-Olu gave the commendation at the Christmas Carol Service organised by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) at Alausa, Ikeja. The carol service was held with the theme “King of Kings.”

Speaking at the event, the First Lady described the carol service as an opportunity to give thanks to God for the successes recorded by LASEMA in the year. She read the first Bible lesson from the Book of Isaiah, Chapter 9, verses 6 to 10, and later joined the LASEMA choir to render a special anthem.

The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, noted that although the year was challenging, it was also fulfilling, as the agency made significant progress in building a fully functional emergency management system. He explained that LASEMA had advanced beyond emergency response to focus on disaster risk reduction and prevention.

Dr Oke-Osanyintolu also advised residents to remain safety-conscious during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, warning against the use of fireworks, candles and exposed or naked electric wires.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Mr Sesan Ogundeko, praised LASEMA for carrying out its responsibilities efficiently and effectively for the benefit of Lagos residents.

The event featured performances by gospel artistes, including Yinka Alaseyori and Bisi Akewi, as well as the LASEMA choristers, who appeared in uniform Ankara outfits. The performers thrilled guests with various Christmas renditions.

Our correspondent, Yemisi Dada, reports that the carol service was well attended and marked a moment of reflection and celebration for emergency responders in the state.
