Lagos, Ethiopia Deepen Ties on Sustainable Development Financing
The Lagos State Government has hosted a high-level delegation from Ethiopia as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration on sustainable development financing and the implementation of Nigeria’s Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF).
The delegation, which visited through the Office of Sustainable Development Goals (OSDGs), participated in a sub-national exchange programme designed to promote knowledge sharing and foster partnerships on innovative financing strategies for sustainable development.
Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of SDGs, Mrs. Kaphayah Olayemi Sarumi, highlighted the importance of peer learning and strategic cooperation among African nations in addressing development financing challenges.
She noted that Lagos State remains committed to prudent fiscal management, innovative financing mechanisms, and strategic partnerships that support infrastructure development and social welfare programmes. According to her, the Integrated National Financing Framework provides a practical roadmap for aligning public spending with sustainable development priorities.
“Lagos State remains committed to the fiscal discipline, innovation, and partnerships required to bridge financing gaps and accelerate development outcomes. The Integrated National Financing Framework offers a structured approach for aligning our budgetary priorities with global sustainability targets while ensuring measurable impact for our citizens,” she said.
Leader of the Ethiopian delegation, Mr. Solomon Tesfasilassie, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for its hospitality and openness in sharing governance and financing experiences.
He stated that Ethiopia is eager to learn from Nigeria’s sub-national financing strategies in order to strengthen its own development financing framework. He also commended Lagos State for its leadership in promoting economic resilience and sustainable urban development.
Also speaking, Technical Adviser to the Senior Special Assistant to the President, Dr. Bala Yunusa, stressed the significance of knowledge exchange and regional cooperation in tackling emerging development challenges across Africa.
According to him, strategic engagements between national and sub-national governments are critical to unlocking innovative financing opportunities and accelerating sustainable development across the continent. He also conveyed the Federal Government’s appreciation to the Lagos State Government for hosting the exchange programme.
The multi-day engagement featured technical sessions, policy dialogues, and inter-ministerial reviews involving experts in development financing and economic planning from both countries.
The visit further strengthened bilateral relations between Nigeria and Ethiopia and reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing the goals of Africa’s Agenda 2063 through sustainable financing, resilient institutions, and inclusive economic growth.
