Former Lagos State Governor and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Babatunde Raji Fashola, will take centre stage at the 2026 Annual Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja Branch, where leading voices from the legal, political and business sectors are expected to examine issues surrounding governance, leadership and economic development.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos, Chairman of the Law Week Planning Committee, Chukwudi Kachikwu Enebeli, SAN, disclosed that Fashola will deliver the keynote address during the opening plenary session.

The former governor will speak on the topic, “Law, Leadership and the Ballot: Governance Beyond Politics,” drawing from his years of experience in public administration and policy implementation.

The event, themed “Altering the Status Quo: Going Against the Norm,” will hold from June 19 to June 25 at the Lagos Marriott Hotel, Ikeja, and is expected to attract legal practitioners, government officials, business leaders and academics from across the country.

According to Enebeli, this year's programme is designed to challenge conventional thinking and promote discussions on institutional accountability, leadership effectiveness and sustainable national development.

A key feature of the week-long event is the Business Forum themed “Accelerating the Future of the Nigerian Economy,” which will bring together stakeholders from the public and private sectors to explore strategies for economic growth and national competitiveness.

Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, is among the prominent figures expected at the forum. Participants will deliberate on investment opportunities, trade policies, industrial development and reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s economy.

Young lawyers will also benefit from a dedicated session titled “The Grind Before the Glory,” focused on mentorship, career growth, ethical practice and leadership development within the legal profession.

Other highlights include the Bar and Bench Session, “What is Expected on the Other Side of the Coin,” and the Alao Aka-Bashorun Memorial Lecture themed “2027: Building a Nation Where No Man is Oppressed.”

Beyond the intellectual engagements, the Law Week programme will feature several social and wellness activities, including a health walk, religious observances and the Chairman’s Dinner, creating opportunities for networking and professional interaction.
