Civil Rights Group Backs AIG Jimoh, Urges Court Process in Ajiran Murder Case

 


A civil rights advocacy group has expressed support for Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Olohundare Jimoh over his handling of the investigations into the killings of Mr. Sheriff Ishola Salami and Prince Kazeem Ademola Akinloye, while urging the public to allow the judicial process to run its course.

The group made the call during a solidarity visit to AIG Jimoh, who currently heads the Zone 2 Police Command covering Lagos and Ogun states. According to the group, the visit was prompted by what it described as a sustained campaign of misinformation allegedly aimed at discrediting the senior police officer over his role in investigating the cases while serving as the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.

In a statement, the group recalled that Sheriff Ishola Salami was killed on April 18, 2023, while Prince Kazeem Ademola Akinloye, the first son of the Ojomu of Ajiranland, was murdered on August 26, 2024, both in Ajiran Community, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The activists stated that following his assumption of office as Lagos State Commissioner of Police on February 18, 2025, AIG Jimoh approved an investigation into a petition submitted by Olarotimi Williams Chambers seeking the investigation and prosecution of those allegedly responsible for the killings.

According to the group, the investigation led to the arrest of two suspects who allegedly made confessional statements detailing how the murders were carried out and identifying the alleged sponsor of the crimes.

The group further alleged that the police subsequently declared Lagos businessman Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi, also known as Ahmed Ajiran or Hamed Tajudeen, wanted in connection with the killings before he was eventually arrested in the Benin Republic.

The activists claimed that there were attempts by interested parties to influence the investigation and frustrate the prosecution but commended the police for remaining steadfast and refusing to compromise the case.

Noting that the matter is currently before a competent court, the group said it would not comment on the substantive issues in the case, stressing that the matter is sub judice.

It expressed confidence that the judicial process would ensure justice for the victims and their families, while describing AIG Jimoh as a professional and committed police officer who demonstrated integrity during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.

The group also urged members of the public to disregard what it described as misinformation and propaganda surrounding the case and allow the courts to determine the issues based on the evidence presented.
