New Era Foundation Marks Sixth Olokun Festival, Reaffirms Commitment to Yoruba Cultural Heritage

The New Era Foundation for Yoruba Festival and Culture Intervention has marked the sixth edition of its annual Olokun Festival, reaffirming its commitment to preserving, promoting and passing down Yoruba cultural heritage and traditional values to future generations.

The 2026 edition of the festival was held at Debojo Beach, Eleko, in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State, and attracted members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) New Era, traditional rulers, cultural enthusiasts and Yoruba sons and daughters.

Speaking at the event, President of OPC New Era, Comrade Rasak Arogundade, described the annual celebration as an important platform for promoting Yoruba heritage, spirituality and cultural traditions.

Arogundade said the festival provided an opportunity for Yoruba people to come together in prayer and thanksgiving, describing it as a gathering where participants could seek divine blessings for peace, prosperity, unity and progress.

He urged members of OPC New Era to remain peaceful, disciplined and committed to protecting Yoruba cultural heritage while promoting the interests and development of their communities.

Also speaking, Chairman of OPC New Era in Oyo State, Comrade Rotimi Olumo, said the festival was a significant cultural gathering that should be embraced by all Yoruba people.



Olumo emphasised that the celebration was not exclusively for OPC members, but was open to all Yoruba people interested in preserving and promoting their cultural identity.

He said the festival offered participants an opportunity to pray for prosperity, long life, peace and continued progress for the Yoruba people.

Olumo also prayed for the traditional rulers who attended the event, asking for divine protection, wisdom and long and peaceful reigns.

He further offered prayers for Arogundade, seeking wisdom, strength and good health for him to continue providing leadership for OPC New Era.

The festival featured prayers, cultural displays and traditional observances. Some participants also collected water from the beach to take home as part of their personal cultural and spiritual practices.

The celebration was further enlivened by a musical performance by Ibadan-born Fuji musician, Taye Currency, whose performance added excitement and colour to the occasion.


The organisers said the annual Olokun Festival would continue to provide a platform for strengthening Yoruba identity, promoting cultural values, fostering unity and peaceful coexistence, and ensuring that the rich heritage of the Yoruba people is preserved for generations to come.
