Lagos Police Arrest 32 Suspects, Recover 43 Vehicles, Five Guns, Ammunition

 

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 32 suspects and recovered 43 vehicles, five pump-action guns, five locally made pistols and assorted ammunition during various operations across the state in September 2026.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, disclosed this on Monday during a press briefing on the operational achievements of the Command for the month.

According to him, the arrests and recoveries followed intelligence-led operations, proactive policing, crime prevention initiatives and swift responses to security threats across the state.

Other exhibits recovered during the period included 20 live ammunition/cartridges, 15 expended ammunition, two cutlasses, assorted suspected criminal charms, one television set, a radiator, a car jack, vandalised electrical wires, ₦2.5 million cash and a bag containing vehicle spare parts and tools.

The Commissioner also disclosed that more than 41 vehicles were impounded on Monday during an early-morning enforcement operation targeting vehicles with covered number plates and unregistered vehicles.

Police Officer Killed During Stop-and-Search Operation

CP Fatai said the Command recorded a tragic incident on September 26 when a police officer, Sergeant Johnson Okediji, was killed while performing stop-and-search duties along Olugbede Street, Egbeda.

According to him, officers had signalled a Lexus ES 350, registration number FKJ 223 KX, driven by 21-year-old Olumide Olusola, to stop.

The driver initially stopped but allegedly sped off as Sergeant Okediji approached the driver's side, knocking the officer down and dragging him underneath the vehicle for several metres.

The officer, who sustained multiple fractures and serious head injuries, was rushed to a nearby hospital and later referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His remains were deposited at Mainland Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while the vehicle was recovered to the police station.

The Commissioner said the driver was eventually chased and arrested.

Police Arrest Suspected Robbery Suspect, Recover Gun and Vehicle Parts

The Command also arrested a 32-year-old man, Ojo Azeez, during a routine patrol along Oko Oba Road at about 4am on September 28.

According to the police, some hoodlums fled on sighting the patrol team, but Azeez was arrested after a chase.

A search allegedly led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size pistol, a radiator, a car jack, an engine block and a bag containing assorted vehicle spare parts and tools.

The police said investigation was ongoing to determine the source of the recovered items and the suspect's possible involvement in other criminal activities.

Suspected Robbery Gang Member Arrested

The Commissioner further disclosed that the Command arrested 29-year-old Ezekiel Sunday Obi in connection with an alleged armed robbery at Ghost and Spirit Lounge, Ekoro Road, Abule Egba.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 5am on September 26, when armed men allegedly arrived at the lounge in a grey Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV and robbed a man of his gold wrist chain and rings.

Obi was arrested at about 1am on September 27 at the Toll Gate area of the Lagos-Ogun boundary.

The police said efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the alleged gang and recover the exhibits.

₦2.5m Recovered From Suspected Gang Member

In another operation, the police arrested Ogunbayo Abdulwahib following information that a group of young men had allegedly travelled from Idi-Oro, Mushin, to the Chevron area of Lekki-Ajah, where they reportedly entered residential apartments and dispossessed occupants of valuables.

Anti-Crime Patrol operatives were subsequently mobilised to Idi-Oro, where Abdulwahib was arrested.

He allegedly led the operatives to Muritical Hotel and Suites, Anu Oluwapo Street, Idi-Oro, where ₦2.5 million and three mobile phones were recovered from a room he had reportedly lodged in with other members of the group.

The other suspects reportedly fled before the arrival of the police, with efforts ongoing to apprehend them.

Police Recover Pump-Action Gun, Pistols, Ammunition

The Command also arrested three suspected robbers — Lekan Jimoh, 32; Oyepeju Olanrewaju, 33; and Olurebi Suleiman, 30 — in the Idi-Oro area of Mushin.

According to the police, information obtained during interrogation led to the recovery of a black pump-action gun and 11 live cartridges at Igbogbo, Ikorodu, from 47-year-old Banjo Taiwo.

Further investigation led to the arrest of 26-year-old Ebuka Benedict at Olorunsogo, Mushin, where a locally made Beretta pistol and four live 9mm ammunition were allegedly recovered from his room.

The police said Benedict reportedly confessed to membership of the Eiye confraternity, while investigation continues.

12 Suspected Cultists Arrested in Badagry

The Commissioner also announced the arrest of 12 suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity in the Imeke area of Badagry.

The suspects, aged between 23 and 49, allegedly admitted membership of the group and reportedly held various positions within the organisation.

Recovered from them were a Mercedes-Benz vehicle, two vehicle keys — one for a Lexus and another for a Mercedes-Benz — a locally made cut-to-size gun and several suspected criminal charms.

CP Fatai said seven of the suspects had already been charged to court, while investigation continued to recover additional arms and apprehend other members of the group.

Police Arrest Suspected Arms Courier in Oshodi

The Command also arrested 15-year-old Taiye Majekodunmi at the Capa area of Oshodi for allegedly transporting firearms and ammunition concealed inside a loaf of bread.

The suspect was reportedly taking the weapons to a receiver on the instruction of one Samuel.

The police said a locally made fabricated Beretta pistol, four rounds of unexpended 9mm ammunition and a locally made single-barrel cut-to-size gun were recovered from him.

Further investigation allegedly led to the recovery of an additional cut-to-size gun and 11 unexpended cartridges linked to the suspect.

The police said the suspect had made useful statements and investigation was ongoing.

Other Arrests

The Command also arrested Femi Ishola, 35, and Daniel Luke, 27, at Ganyigbo Beach Yard following intelligence gathering on suspected cult activities.

Both suspects reportedly made confessional statements admitting membership of the Eiye Confraternity.

In Ojo, 53-year-old Sijuade Alade was arrested for alleged unlawful possession of a firearm, with a locally made pistol recovered from him.

In Epe, 27-year-old Joshua Benard was arrested following a distress call from the Agric area, with building electrical wires suspected to have been stolen recovered from him.

Police operatives also arrested six suspects following a distress call over alleged breaking, looting and destruction of property around Ejigbo–Idimu Road. Two cutlasses and a stolen television set were recovered.

The suspects were identified as Ayomide Odusanya, 18; Michael Olushi, 18; Victor Denis, 20; Favour Obaji, 18; and Jamiu Isah, 16, while the Command's briefing listed six suspects but provided five names.

In Badagry, 26-year-old carpenter Kole Josu was arrested in connection with alleged unlawful possession of a firearm and public disturbance. The police said two victims had so far made statements in the matter.

The Commissioner assured residents that the Command would continue to protect police personnel lawfully carrying out their duties and hold accountable officers whose conduct falls short of expected standards.

He commended police officers and operatives for the reported breakthroughs and thanked members of the public for their cooperation and timely provision of credible information.

“Security is a shared responsibility,” the Commissioner said.
