LSPPA Aligns LG/LCDAs Procurement Officers on Transparent Execution of 114 Capital Road Projects

 


The Lagos State Public Procurement Agency (LSPPA) has engaged Procurement Officers from the 57 Local Government Areas/Local Council Development Areas (LG/LCDAs) in Lagos State to ensure strict compliance with established procurement processes and procedures in the execution of 114 capital road projects across the State.


The meeting, held at Ejigbo Local Council Development Area, had about 57 Procurement Officers in attendance. It was convened to align the LG/LCDAs with the Agency’s procurement requirements, particularly in the examination and evaluation of documents submitted by bidders for the proposed capital road projects.


The LG/LCDAs have secured the necessary funding and approvals to undertake the projects as part of their statutory responsibilities.


Addressing the participants, the Director-General of LSPPA, Mr. Fatai Idowu Onafowote, said the meeting was organised to educate the Procurement Officers on the specific documents to be examined during the bidding process for the 114 capital road projects.


He emphasised the need for strict adherence to relevant procurement laws, regulations and guidelines, stressing that all procurement activities must be conducted transparently, fairly and in accordance with due process.


The Chairman of the Local Council Development Areas, Honourable Aare Taoheed Adebayo Taiwo, described procurement as a key component in the effective management of government projects. He said he had always believed in due process and pledged to continue supporting measures that would ensure government funds are judiciously utilised.


He advised the Procurement Officers to be meticulous during the bidding process, urging them to “cross the T’s and dot the I’s” to ensure compliance with all requirements.


Also speaking, the Head of the Procurement Department, LSPPA, said the meeting provided an important platform for ensuring that the procurement process was properly coordinated and implemented in line with the principles of accountability, transparency and value for money.


He added that officers from the State would be deployed to observe the bid-opening process, urging the Procurement Officers to ensure proper coordination and adherence to established procedures.



The representative of the Procurement Officers of the LGs/LCDAs, Mr. Olundegun Hakeem Olabode, appreciated the Director-General and his team for the capacity-building training provided to the officers, particularly on the bidding process and public procurement procedures in general.


He urged the Agency to organise more capacity-building programmes for newly recruited Procurement Officers at both the State and LG/LCDA levels to further strengthen their knowledge and skills.


He also assured the Agency that the Procurement Officers would continue to put in their best to ensure transparency, accountability and value for money in the procurement process.


The engagement underscored the Agency’s commitment to strengthening procurement practices across the State and ensuring that public resources are utilised efficiently and transparently in the delivery of critical infrastructure to residents.
