OGBOMOSO — The opening ceremony of the third edition of the Orumogege Football Competition took an unexpected entertainment twist in Ogbomoso as Fuji star, Alhaji Rahmon Akani, delivered a lively musical performance that got the Soun of Ogbomoso and other dignitaries on their feet.

The Soun Township Stadium, venue of the tournament's opening ceremony, was already buzzing with football enthusiasts when Akani mounted the stage. Within minutes, the atmosphere shifted into a colourful celebration of music, culture and community spirit.

His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III, the Soun of Ogbomoso, joined other dignitaries and spectators in appreciating the performance as the Fuji musician rolled out a repertoire that blended traditional Yoruba sounds with contemporary Fuji rhythms.

The crowd responded enthusiastically, singing along to familiar tunes, dancing and cheering as the musician maintained the tempo of the performance.

Akani's appearance added a strong cultural dimension to an event primarily organised around grassroots football, reinforcing the connection between sporting activities and the rich entertainment heritage of Ogbomosoland.

An indigene of Ogbomoso, the Fuji performer has built a reputation for his energetic stage performances and has established connections with audiences in different parts of Nigeria and outside the country.

His participation was particularly fitting for an event that also celebrates the reign of the Soun, providing an opportunity for local culture and entertainment to take centre stage alongside football.

At one point, the distinction between a football opening ceremony and a cultural celebration appeared to disappear, as the stadium became a lively arena of music, dancing and jubilation.

For spectators, Akani's performance emerged as one of the memorable moments of the ceremony, complementing the arrival of the participating teams and setting an upbeat tone for the competition.
