The Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has assured youths in the Ikola community of its commitment to sports development, youth empowerment and sustainable community development.
The council gave the assurance on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, during a stakeholders’ engagement with youths at the Ikola Ololade Field.
Speaking on behalf of the Executive Chairman of Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA, Hon. Abiodun Jimoh Isola Ejigbadero, the council representative said the administration regarded youths as important stakeholders in the development of the community.
He said the council had continued to create opportunities for young people through sports, education, fitness, skills development and other meaningful engagement programmes.
According to him, the ongoing Supervisor for Youth and Sports Agbado/Oke-Odo Community Cup, organised in conjunction with Comrade Akinwale Israel, was aimed at discovering young talents, promoting healthy competition and strengthening unity among communities.
He announced that the grand finale between the Youth and Sports Team and Oke-Odo FC would take place on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., urging residents to come out and support the young footballers.
The council also highlighted its support for boxing champion, Taiye Fajimi, who recently represented Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA at the National Stadium, Surulere, where he emerged victorious.
Beyond competitive sports, the administration said its weekly “Get Fit with Eji” programme was designed to encourage residents of all ages to embrace physical fitness and healthy living.
The council further disclosed that it had intensified its campaign against drug abuse among youths through awareness programmes and its Welcome Back to School Drug Awareness Programme, implemented in secondary schools in collaboration with relevant agencies.
Addressing the recent misunderstanding over the use of football fields along the Powerline corridor in Ikola, the council clarified that the administration had no intention of depriving youths of sporting opportunities.
It explained that the plan was to properly organise the available space in a manner that would accommodate sports development while creating room for other productive and permissible activities that could provide economic opportunities for residents.
“There are currently two portions being used as football fields. The plan under consideration is to improve one into a better sporting facility, possibly with modern turf, while maximising the remaining space for other productive and permissible uses,” the council said.
The administration also appealed to youths to remain calm and avoid actions or accusations based on incomplete information, stressing that disagreements could be resolved through dialogue.
It noted that the Executive Chairman and his team had continued to engage Baales, religious leaders, Community Development Committees (CDCs), youth groups and other stakeholders in an effort to resolve the matter amicably.
The council further cited the return of Alade Stadium to council ownership and the transformation of previously disorganised corridors into structured commercial areas as examples of its commitment to protecting and properly utilising public assets.
On its broader vision for sports development, the administration said it aspired to establish a standard sports complex where footballers, boxers, athletes and other talented youths could train, develop their skills and pursue their dreams.
It added that the objective was to build communities where sports, business, education, security and social development could thrive side by side.
The council therefore urged the youths of Ikola and the wider Agbado/Oke-Odo community to embrace peace, dialogue and constructive engagement.
The administration reaffirmed its commitment to working with youths and other stakeholders to build a peaceful, progressive and economically vibrant LCDA where young people would have not only places to play, but also opportunities to grow, work, succeed and fulfil their aspirations.
