Eti-Osa 2027: APC backs Saheed Bankole as constituency I race begins

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State has rallied behind its candidate for the Lagos State House of Assembly, Eti-Osa Constituency I, Hon. Saheed Adesegun Bankole, as political activities ahead of the 2027 election gather momentum.

The party formally flagged off Bankole’s campaign during an interfaith prayer at the Ikate-Elegushi Eid Praying Ground, Lekki, Lagos, attended by party members, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other residents.

Bankole, who is the Executive Chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government Area, pledged to provide effective representation and pursue programmes that address the needs of constituents if elected into the House of Assembly.

He said his experience in local government administration had prepared him for the legislative role, promising to ensure equal representation for the constituency.

“We are going into the House of Assembly for lawmaking. We shall give equal representation. I've been a councillor since 1997 and I didn't disappoint my ward. If you all vote for me, I won't disappoint you all,” Bankole said.

He urged APC members to remain united and committed to the party ahead of the election, while appealing to residents to support his candidacy.

Bankole also emphasised his ties to Eti-Osa, describing himself as a son of the community and saying such connections would strengthen his commitment to representing its interests.

Former Executive Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, Fuad Atanda-Lawal, said the transition from executive local government administration to the legislature required a focus on lawmaking, advocacy and representation.

He said an elected representative must articulate the concerns of constituents on the floor of the House and work towards attracting the dividends of democracy to the constituency.

“We are no longer an executive, but we have to fight for our people. We have to bring the dividends of democracy to the people,” Atanda-Lawal said.

He identified youth development and skills acquisition as areas requiring attention, particularly for young people involved in street activities.

According to him, such youths should be given opportunities to acquire technical skills, become employable and reintegrate into society.

Atanda-Lawal also raised concerns over the vandalism of vehicles along coastal roads, saying government intervention should address the underlying challenges facing young people involved in such activities.

The Commissioner for Operations, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Prince Anofiu Olanrewaju Elegushi, said Bankole emerged as the APC candidate through the participation of party members.

Elegushi urged Bankole, if elected, to serve as the voice of the people and work with the state government to ensure that the needs of constituents were addressed.

“The most important thing is for him to be the voice of the people, the voice of the people of their constituency, and then to support the governor in making sure that all the promises they made are fulfilled,” he said.

He also called on residents to participate in the 2027 election and exercise their constitutional right to vote.

Bankole expressed confidence in the APC’s prospects and urged party members to work together as the party begins its mobilisation for the Constituency I contest.
