Igbo Community in Lagos Endorses Tinubu for Second Term, Hamzat for Governor
The Igbo community in Lagos State has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office and Dr Obafemi Hamzat as its preferred candidate for the Lagos State governorship.
The endorsement was announced at a gathering held in Surulere, Lagos, where members of the community expressed their support for the two political leaders.
Speaking at the event, the group's apex leader, Hon. Joe Igbokwe, urged Igbo residents in Lagos State to come out en masse and vote for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, while also supporting Hamzat's governorship ambition.
Igbokwe declared that Tinubu remained the leader capable of sustaining the administration's ongoing programmes and urged Nigerians, particularly members of the Igbo community residing in Lagos, to support his re-election bid.
According to him, a second term for Tinubu would provide an opportunity for the President to consolidate on his administration's achievements and continue his work.
He called on members of the Igbo community to participate actively in the electoral process by ensuring that they obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that the cards remained their most important instrument for determining the country's political leadership.
Igbokwe also urged Igbo residents in Lagos to register their details on the online database being compiled to document members of the community living in the state.
He explained that the database initiative was aimed at gathering relevant information about Igbo residents in Lagos, urging eligible members of the community to participate in the exercise.
The endorsement underscores the group's stated commitment to mobilising support for Tinubu's second-term ambition and Hamzat's governorship aspiration ahead of the forthcoming elections.
