Ikuru Warns Politicians Against Treating People as Personal Property

,Sir. Prof Amb Hon Godwin lkuru the Social Democratic Party (SDP) senatorial candidate for Delta Central Senatorial District, has cautioned politicians against attempting to control people they help into political offices, stressing that leadership should be built on freedom, respect and human development.
Ikuru, popularly known as the man who sees tomorrow, said politics should not be used as a means of placing people under personal control, adding that every individual deserves the freedom to make independent decisions.
According to him, political leaders must understand that helping someone attain a political position does not give them the right to dictate how the person should live or govern.
“You don't play politics and put people in your pocket. You can give birth to children, but you cannot put them inside your pocket. You must allow them to exercise their freedom,” he said.
The SDP senatorial candidate further noted that making someone a governor does not mean the individual should become a political puppet or remain under the control of the person who helped him attain the position.
“If you make somebody a governor, you don't need to put him in your pocket. You cannot become the President and put your own country in your pocket,” Ikuru stated.
He emphasised that political leadership should be guided by the principles of freedom, accountability and the welfare of the people rather than personal interests and the desire to control others.
Ikuru also stressed that human investment remains one of the most valuable investments anyone can make, noting that people's actions and contributions to society would eventually determine what they reap in life.
According to him, good deeds produce positive results, while evil actions eventually attract their consequences.
He therefore urged politicians and other individuals to be mindful of their conduct, warning that attempts to dominate others could undermine genuine relationships and responsible leadership.
“Human investment is the only thing a man can receive and harvest. If you do good, you will harvest good, and if you do evil, you will still harvest it. Mind what you do; don't put people in your pocket,” he warned.
Ikuru's message underscores the importance of allowing people to exercise their freedom, particularly in politics, where leadership should be exercised in the interest of the people rather than for personal control.
