 *  Everything that has a beginning, must  always have an end; this was the case at the Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology, Eleyele, Ibadan as eight academic and non- academic staff  retired from the College, including four oldest serving Environmental Health tutors, who had served the government for forty years. The latest retirees who were sent off with much pomp and pageantry were Sanitarians Olugbemiga Samson Makinde, Oluwole Gbolagade Afolabi, Toyin Adebimpe Jegede and  Mary Titilayo Ogunsanya. Oyo Response Team Links Saki Deaths to Suspected Lassa Fever*

  * The Oyo State Rapid Response Team (RRT) has confirmed four deaths, linked to a suspected Lassa fever outbreak in Saki West local government area of the State.   The fatalities consisted of three males and one 32-year-old female who was preparing for her marriage. The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi had earlier tasked the Oyo State Rapid Response Team to Saki, following numerous calls from Saki West Local Government reporting an outbreak that has led to a number of deaths.  The team, consisting of the Director of Public Health, the State Epidemiologist, State Disease Notification Officer (DSNO), State Laboratory Focal Persons, representatives from WHO and Red Cross, as well as the PHC Cordinator of Saki West and the LGA DSNO, embarked on a comprehensive investigation to the scene of the incidence. Oyo Gov't. Approves Expansion of State Social Register*

  * The Oyo State Government on Wednesday approved the expansion of the State Social Register, a key repository for identifying the poor and vulnerable individuals eligible for various social interventions in the State. This was made known by the Acting Coordinator, Oyo State Operation Coordinating Unit (OYOSOCU), Mr Salami Ismail when the SOCU Team paid Advocacy and Sensitization visits to the Political Heads and Management of Twelve (12) Local Government Areas that will participate in the 10th round Community Based Targeting (CBT) exercise in the State. He said the expansion is in Governor Seyi Makinde’s efforts to prioritize the welfare of poor and vulnerable households in the State. While sensitizing the Chairmen, Mr. Salami Ismail stated that the Unit is saddled with the responsibility of populating the Social Register of the poor and vulnerable households in the State and it was established in the  year 2013 with the initial funding by World Bank and later the Federal Government.

  In a tragic incident in Lagos, three people have been confirmed dead after a Dangote truck, registered as DCG-TM-028, rammed into a shopping complex in the Epe area. The accident, which also left several others injured, occurred when the truck reportedly experienced brake failure while descending from Ita-Opo in Epe Local Government Area. Speaki ng to journalists, Hon. Tobun Abiodun, the representative for Epe Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, described the incident as devastating. “A harrowing incident took place today at Ayetoro in Epe, claiming several lives and causing significant damage to property,” he said. The collision destroyed a building, a commercial tricycle, and a Toyota Camry parked within the complex. Hon. Abiodun called upon the government to explore alternative routes for heavy trucks passing through Epe to reduce the frequency of accidents in the area. He also urged the authorities to install speed limits and traffic lights on this road to help r

Oladotun Olakanle.  Barr. Rekiya Olufunke Hassan, 44, took the oath of office to succeed the late Olakanle at the low-key ceremony held in the precinct of the State House, Alausa.  The event was attended by members of the State Executive Council, state leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and key officials of the LCDA. Hassan, the council’s former supervisor for the Department of Agriculture and Social Services, was picked as Vice Chairman, following the death of the former chairman of the council, Hon. Babatunde Oke, in August 2020, which paved the way for the emergence of the late Olakanle as chairman. Olakanle died nine days ago after a brief illness.
