The Oyo State College of Health Sciences and Technology (OYSCOHEST) has achieved a major academic milestone with the approval of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme for its Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates in four NBTE-accredited programmes, effective from 2026 service year.
The approval was announced in a press statement signed by the College’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sola Samuel Ojewole, following the listing of the College among the CORPS PRODUCING INSTITUTIONS in Nigeria, as published in the PRE-MOBILIZATION WORKSHOP document for Batch 'A' 2026.
With this development, graduates of Health Information Management, Nutrition and Dietetics, Dental Therapy, and Environmental Health Technology will now be eligible to participate in the mandatory one-year National Youth Service after graduation.
Reacting to the approval, the Provost of the College, Pharmacist (Mrs) Oluyemisi Oyewo, described the development as a landmark achievement and a significant boost to the academic standing of the institution. She encouraged prospective HND candidates to enrol in any of the four NBTE-accredited programmes to take advantage of the new NYSC eligibility.
The Provost reaffirmed the commitment of the College management to sustaining high academic and moral standards. She expressed appreciation to the Governor of Oyo State and Visitor to the College, Engineer Seyi Makinde, for his continuous financial and logistics support, and commended the Chairman of the Governing Council, Honourable Babatunde Olaniyan, for his steadfast leadership.
Students of the College, including the President of the Students’ Union Government, welcomed the approval and pledged their cooperation with the College management to uphold the institution’s growing reputation.
Established on April 1, 1933, OYSCOHEST, formerly known as the School of Hygiene before attaining College status in 2015, currently operates a satellite campus in Okeho, Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State and runs 23 academic programmes approved by the National Board for Technical Education and other relevant professional bodies.
Meanwhile, admission for the 2026/2027 academic session for professional programmes will commence in March, 2026.
